I saw the movie last night and I have to say it was a very mixed bag. I do not believe the film is as bad as some people are making it out to be, however with that said the film is a let down.
The main thing I liked about the movie was the casting choices. Ben Affleck was a great Bruce Wayne/Batman(even if I had some issues with some of his actions). I believe Jeremy Irons is the best Alfred we have had to date and I hope we see more of him in future movies. I thought Gal Gadot did a good job with the screen time she had. I know that some people had issues with Jesse Eisenberg's casting, however I really liked his take, it was something different and again like Jeremy Irons I am hoping to see a lot more of him in the future.
Unfortunately there are some characters who don't receive the best treatment. Superman is the biggest issue character wise as I found the development he went through in Man of Steel was forgotten about and what we were presented with was a Superman who was unsure of himself, I did like the concept that they explored within the film of how a society would act in relation to a being with seemingly godlike power but I found that Superman needed to act more confident and show that he is only a force for good.
Again like others have said I found that Lois Lane was incredibly underutilised, which is a shame as I think Amy Adams is a good choice for the character.
The main issue with the film is it's structure and the editing. As mentioned earlier in my post I did like the concepts and questions that were raised in the film but I found that they weren't executed very well. Without going into too many spoilers there were sequences that just took you completely out of the movie, these sequences were there to lay groundwork for future films but a normal movie-goer would not understand them one bit and would probably be more confused then intrigued.
Overall, I liked the majority of the casting and the themes but found things weren't executed very well and poor editing really hurt the entire pacing.

All though this is my new favorite movie I do agree with pretty much everything you said. The scenes you are talking about got me really excited but as soon as the movie ended I found myself explaining what the scenes meant and why they did it to people around me. I'm a Superman fan and do think Henry does a good job as Superman in some scenes but yes by now he Superman needs to be more controlled and confident. Saying that I don't like how he plays Clark Kent. The scene we all know form the trailers and the Jimmy Kimmel when Bruce and Clark meet Clark is standing to up straight and is to confident. Christopher Reeves always played Clark well. I just look at all this as alternative versions of the characters.

it's just a big setup piece, Lex is not Lex, there is no 'Clark' and Lois is merely a plot device

Was made to look like a complete idiot throughout the majority of the movie. I know films like to abuse the "Idiot Plot" but come on my 6 year old nephew could have come up with a more believable reason for Superman and Batman to fight each other than what was given in this movie. I can forgive a lot of things(heck I didn't even mind the darkness). The one thing I can't forgive is insulting my intelligence and this movie nailed that. Unfortunately there are more cases of this in the movie but I would be spoiling if I listed them all. I hope people who enjoyed this movie doesn't take my opinion offensive. I'm merely sharing how I felt about the film. If you like the movie than I'm happy for you.

Just saw the deleted scene from the film that was just released, the scene seems to provide more context for Lex's character and how he knows certain things. I'm half wondering if the Ultimate Cut may actually be far superior to the theatrical cut as it may include scenes like the previously mentioned one that gives more context to characters action(as opposed to the Ultimate Cut just having more fight scenes)>

I like John Carter also and I think its way better movie than BVSDOJ.

I enjoyed it overall, in terms of the casting, effects & action it was a fun ride.
I think the casting is spot on, I like Henry Cavill and in the right hands I think he could of been a superb superman, Affleck did a great job for me, to quote Capullo Batman should be a slab of a man, Affleck was certainly that but suffered from Hulk syndrome... he was always angry [unless you know his mums name then he chills out quickly]. I felt sorry for Eisenberg he didn't get to play Lex and it was just a fail, Gal Gadot was beautiful, classy & great when she was on screen - the smirk was a high point. It's a fine cast but...
The shame of it from a Batman perspective was that where he does kill it's unnecessary and could of easily been tweaked so he just hurts them [real bad] which he does in other places. Superman, I was hoping for some redemption, to see some of the natural goodness perhaps supported by some fine words from his mum but it was very flat for him dialogue wise.
All that aside my personal biggest issue was although I enjoyed all the easter eggs to various Batman / Superman stories it can't hide that the plot was weak and full of holes. Do Lois and Clark ever speak about stuff?
But coming full circle did I enjoy seeing TDKR live-action BvS fight, hell yeah and WW fighting, the three of them together - yup! greatest comic book movie, no chance! enjoyable comic-book action for me yeah. Hoping that Snyder isn't involved with Justice League - Yes! I don't think he gets the core of the characters and while he's involved it will always fall short for me.

I just really hope that at some point we get somebody else directing Cavill as Superman as I feel he is perfect for the role but he just hasn't been given the greatest of material to work with in the last 2 films.

Agreed, new writers would be a blessing as well. The tone and dialogue can't be laid wholly at Snyder's feet. I just want these movies to feel heroic!

Very true, the fault can't be solely laid at Snyder's feet. I was incredibly excited to hear that George Miller is producing Justice League Part One as I am hoping this means he my be brought into the fold with the DC Universe and may eventually direct a Superman film.

finally got round to seeing it, my expectations were low going in and let's be honest, it wasn't a great film but I still kinda enjoyed it. I compare it to a one shot comic, where they have to tell a complete story in 32 pages so don't bother with character development or motives, they just get down to business. If I didn't read comics I'd probably think it wasn't good. But watching it with a total suspension of belief and logic and not overthinking it, I found it entertaining enough. It's got me really excited for the Wonder Woman film at least, and I thought Affleck made a great Batman and Bruce Wayne. The whole 'our mums have the same name, let's be friends' thing made me laugh, but hey, comic books.

I just recently went to see the film, and as always i never listen to other people or critics because lets be honest everyone has their own personal tastes and perceptions. if you are reader of comics you will know this, we all read these books and find we prefer some writers and artists over others, plus critics often praise films i would rather dig out my eyes instead of seeing... 'There will be blood', 'silver linings playbook', 'sideways' & 'Juno' to name but a few films i have seen and actually hated.
however, looking at this film... I think it was good, a 7 or 8 out of 10 if you need a rating guide. it is not the best film ever... but i enjoyed it. a little ham fisted with their link.. both their mothers have the same name... and the first half was slow.. but I could see what was being done, and of course who needs batman's origin stories again.... but for film link it was required..
I think casting choices were perfect... and we can see that the concern for Affleck was not required. the issue raised about Amy adams being under utilised.. she has a massive roll in the man of steel film.. and the focus if the film was the trinity.. and lex luthor. i also liked this aspect of Lex... he was touched in the head... and actually rather then just greedy for power.... (Joker type villain)
I say go see the film for your own reasons...
