Now that I've read a bit more about it, it is sounding less like a whole retcon/reboot and more of a weird merging (maybe? the bit about making one big, pizza where some toppings fall off could mean some retcons or just a way of killing off some characters who hold no present weight to "give the event stakes" - see "Giant Man in Civil War" for an example of how effective THAT can be. Oy)...
With Miles, I like the move, because it seems like all of the other Ultimate titles have kind of failed/petered off, and this gives them a way to keep something great while ditching the rest of the experiment (which used to, in my opinion, be absolutely brilliant - but this is pre-Ultimates vol. 3, ugh, ugh, UGH). Hadn't they killed off most of the Ultimate heroes at this point, anyway? I honestly don't know. But, like, Wolverine, Cap, Cyclops, etc., etc,...I thought I'd heard that most of them are all deceased. Which might make this merger easier (and maybe was part of this long-running plan they seem to have had).
As far as how they go about doing this, I hope any retcons are minimal to nonexistent. Or, Jack forbid, they decide to reboot, I want them to have a more solid plan/timeline in place than DC seems to have had (or not had), and that they don't just reboot *most* of it and let a couple of books continue on as though nothing had changed but the costumes (cough, Batman, cough, Lantern)...but, again, with some of their more recent, amazing releases - She-Hulk, Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, etc., etc. - I don't want to see anything jeopardize these books, period.
Again, only time will tell, and as someone who's definitely gotten Event Fatigue in the past, I'm definitely going to need some reviews before I pick up SW#1. A claim to "change the MU FOREVER" at this point is a claim made far too often, and I just don't have the patience of the money, these days.
It's probably more the merge, though: with Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, etc., doing so well, I can't imagine they'd scrap all of that. Would they?

$4.99 books. Spiderverse. Secret Wars.
It's like they start their planning meetings by asking, "How can we make Gary Chapin even LESS interested in Marvel than he is now."

I was hoping to ignore Secret Wars but now it doesn't seem like I will have a choice. I am not a big events fan and I'm worried about the effects this will have on my favourite characters. I hope Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel, Squirrel Girl and Spider Gwen survive this unscathed. This was my exact face when I heard the news:

I was hoping to ignore Secret Wars but now it doesn't seem like I will have a choice. I am not a big events fan and I'm worried about the effects this will have on my favourite characters. I hope Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel, Squirrel Girl and Spider Gwen survive this unscathed. This was my exact face when I heard the news: I felt the same way, but seeing how spider-verse is playing out, here's my theory: Marvel is going to take whatever version of each character that is working best or what characters are most popular, regardless of what "universe" it lives in and go forward with all of them living in the same world. Kind of like what they did with spiderman 2099: maybe they thought they couldn't get as interesting stories with just spiderman in the future by himself, so they brought him to present day where he can play around with all the "normal universe" characters. so my prediction as far as who comes out the other side more or less "as we know them": ms marvel squirrel girl (hell, she might even be the big hero of the event!) spider-gwen wolverine from some world where he didn't die Miles Morales some question marks: spider-man (speculation based on one of the spider-verse books) age of apocalypse jean grey (as far as I know she's a jean who never died, speculation based on uncanny x-force) my wishlist for returning as we know them or just plain coming back: Strong Guy (I know he's the lord of hell, which might also make for a good story, but he's damn near my favorite character ever) Spider-man 2099 Rocket Raccoon Ultimate Cloak and Dagger (yeah, I'm sure they aren't as popular as I would like them to be and probably won't make it) SP//dr (might be wishful thinking, but this seems like it has so much potential) Molly from runaways (what was her hero name? Princess Powerful?) or maybe the older one from battle of the atom that's all I have for now time to do some work EDIT: so I hate to link to another site, but over at Comics Alliance they have an article with speculation on all the zones for battleworld, and I have to admit reading this actually got me a little curious. I'm still not ready for another big event after spider-verse, but some of these areas (assuming the speculation is right or even close to right) do make me more receptive to checking it out...

I don't know, back in the 90s we had inferno, cyclops and Jean grey sending their son into the future only to have him come back in time as cable, all the genosha stuff, psylocke being turned into an Asian and brainwashed to become a ninja... Stuff was weird them too I agree with you. I just never got into that stuff so it's kind of jarring for me now trying to understand what all of these other worlds mean. Especially when talking about Spiderverse. I miss when Spiderman used to put Rhino and Shocker into webs I guess : ( I'm up for this Secret Wars thing, but I will have a very short leash like I did with Axis. I got issue #1, gave it away to a friend and was out.

Yeah, my lamentation this morning (after looking at what I bought yesterday) was "WHY CAN'T I HAVE MARVEL STORIES FOR DC PRICES?!?"
Thanks to our dollar sucking wind, the exchange rate is back to being a factor, so a $3.99 comic is probably costing me about $4.25, maybe? I'm afraid to take a calculator and figure it out.

So I'm not overly excited for the actual event, but I am ready to see just how bold Marvel is going to be with who survives. This is going to sound weird but I don't really care who survives, as long as it's a clean break and no more back from the future/past/other dimension crap. I don't need 3 Jean Grays, 4 Peter Parkers and 2 nick furys running around. I'm not saying I won't be pissed if one of my favorites doesn't make it, but I'll get over it, because Marvel will still have the same writers and the same artist that have been bringing us good stuff, only now they won't have to wade through the continuity sewer that Marvel has created over the years. If marvel has enough stones to do it, I'll be in and they will still get my money.
Predictions: 1. old Cyclops, beast, iceman and angel will be killed and we will be left with from the past teen x-men as our main x-men group led by storm, kitty pryde, and nightcrawler. 2. Jimmy Howlett (Ultimate) and X-23 will fill the wolverine void until 2-3 years down the line when it's discovered logan's adamantium encased body survived battle world. 3. Old Cap beats the crap out of Tony Stark and rips the arc reactor out of his chest killing him. Everyone knows it's coming. 4. Rocket and Squirrel girl hook up, get married, have kids and becomes Marvel's new family team Fantastic Fur along with Groot. 5. Peter Parker is still not married to Mary Jane and Spider Gwen "Teams" up with Miles Morales, leaving Peter still alone.

So I was doing the math on numbers of issues until reboot....if everything reboots after the event that would 16 issues before it ended making some end at 15 and others at 25 which is more than enough for a good run
If it reboots just as the event starts it will have some comics come out to end on issue 4 like Antman
So if they are smart they reboot after event and don't start anything new in the next year unless it is related to event

assuming that is how they handle it, I think you would see Peter David doing the 2099 stuff.
for X-Men '92, I guess I would be curious if they are talking about the cartoon show or the comics. The comics were interesting at that point because something had happened and pretty much every X-Man ever made were staying at the school for a handful of issues before breaking back out into a couple three groups and it was pretty cool seeing the older characters like angel and ice man hanging out with people like jubilee (who was a fresh beginner at the time).

Would he also do the future imperfect stuff because he created that too
Based on the cover they released I think it is based on the cartoon
That and the title matches what DC is doing with Batman 66 and Wonder Woman 77
