So anyone read Convergence 8 yet?
Just deleted my post as many might not have read or might not want to be spoiled but looks like the entire DCU History is now available for creators.

I only found out last night that Jock was involved in the design so really will have to go see this again - I'm the same this is the movie which has made the most impact on me so far this year.
I heard an interview with Alex Garland on a UK movie podcast when he was doing pre-release marketing and loved his sense of humour and humility about his craft and how in a very honest and relatable way he came to film making.

i disagree with the "leave-your-brain-at-the-door" thing. yes the actual story in the movie is easy enough to follow [...] Yup, that's all I meant, it's not straining your brain to keep track of the story - but its great fun!

It's a truly great leave-your-brain-at-the-door escapism movie and I enjoyed it.
Can't say it blew me away like it has the majority of people, but then I wasn't a fan of the originals and the whole post-apocalyptic 'we all turn into savages' has just never been my bag. But I can see why this has done so well, the directing at times reminded me of Sam Raimi [at his best] and as someone who has never had a problem leaving my brain anywhere and also suspending clearly illogical suppositions to allow me to fully enjoy a movie I could dig the glorious orgy of crazy going on here.
A big positive that this movie has and which will ensure I watch a few more times is the action sequences were brilliant and as stated above no CGI only cemented how well done and executed this whole movie was.

"A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I." - IMDb
I really enjoyed this movie, they really got the so many things right with this in terms of the tone of the lighting, design, music and actors it just comes together so well to give a real sense of constant tension being played out. Some things didn't surprise as I am sure they were intended to but overall it was more high concept in terms of it delivers a satisfying film but it makes you consider some of the unanswered questions in regards to measuring hard AI in reality and our perception of the rights of a successfully created AI with genuine consciousness.
there's so much more I would love to say but I won't spoil here - once its been out a bit longer or if anyone else has seen it and wants to discuss will jump back in but after watching it last night it really stuck with me some of the complexities relating to AI and what it might mean to us the human creators.
I'll caveat with saying its by no means perfect, it misses in places and at times the acting feels awkward a touch forced but just for the overall concept it's worth checking out if you are lover of Sci Fi.

Yep let's get back to Talking Sandwiches, I'm thinking they have stumbled onto gold here with her heat vision she can lightly toast those 'wiches and I'm thinking with a super-palette she could have a taste explosion going on!
I'm more convinced now than ever to go watch Mad Max thanks to this weeks episode and also well chuffed that there was some Injection love but had to chuckle as after reading it I reflex bought Warren Ellis Trees and heard the mixed feelings but I do like me some WElli.
Next Week I have made the incredible decision to purchase 2 Marvel books and I blame you all

Flash is right up there for me as one of my favorite characters and its always been the Wally West version mainly because of Messner-Loebs / Baron / Collins / LaRocque with their handling of Wally. I'm a art-whore first and foremost and I recall [after checking] it was #24 'Takeoff' which caught my attention, I had grabbed the occassional issue but this started a love affair with the character eventually seeing my collection swell to #20 - #211.
I have to say my favorite work was done by Waid and then Morrison / Millar specifically Waid who still to this day I will pull out his run and reread it most years. Wally was my Flash and I admit I really miss him, I miss the legacy aspect and his struggle to fill the shoes of his greatest hero and having to come to terms with eventually exceeding him in some areas. The whole speed force concept from this era really excited me and the stories with Return of Barry Allen, Savitar, Dark Flash, Terminal Velocity and Chain Lightning [apologies can't remember correct titles] gave Wally a almost limitless potential but all in this wonderfully flawed and very average in terms of his needs & desires man. One of my favorite issues was during the story with Savitar when he tells Wally 'I have forgotten more about speed than you know' as he stops some shuriken in mid-air stealing their momentum - it was an almost light-bulb moment for me that this wasn't just about someone who moved fast anymore... and a whole world of possibilities opened up.
New-52 Flash hasn't done it for me and it isn't a Barry thing I like the character but with so much great Image quality books coming out you have to make tough money decisions and if they can ever recapture that lightning-in-a-bottle [badoom'dum'ting!] then I'll give it another go but I just stopped enjoying it so after coming back to it I'm benching it for now.
Side note, if you are an art-whore like me check out the late Michael Turner's covers starting from #207 through to #211 [maybe #212] some gorgeous Flash cover art right there.

I might try my 6yr old on Bat-Mite & Bizarro, so far he has resisted the comics bug other than Lego Ninjago and Chima comics but the other day he did say 'This is rubbish, there's no story in this magazine' from one of his Skylander things...I can feel him turning to the dark side!!!

I'm late to the Revival party but after buying the 1st trade I then bought the next 3 and am now buying it monthly but that damn 5th trade will go so well with the other 4.
Loving this book so much! totally obsessed because the story & art just seem in total harmony.

DC You

I think it's good that DC has started to realize that diversity isn't about inserting a token Gay, Colored, Tall, Fat, Disabled, Gender etc... character into their books. Its about diversity in storytelling in terms of the writers, artists, inkers, colorists and letterers [+ host of other supporting people involved in those books], determining characters and marrying them to the right creative team who can reflect the core attributes of the lead character should continue to be their pursuit.
The 'DC You' campaign is a step in the right direction by DC in so much as they aren't pretending it is anything other than a Ad campaign, just as Marvel Now really was this will be DC's way of hyping their range and hoping the Marvel reboot[launch] doesn't dent their core readership too much.
The tone of each of the books [overall] seems a good attempt at the marriage between the right kind of style creators with the correct DC properties. I'm sure they will be hopeful of getting some sleeper on-going hits but as DiDio has hinted it's not a problem to give a character their own title if the creative team and story is exciting it's something worth telling, then if it stops due to sales it then allows other characters and creators a chance to have a solo title.
It does look like a good time if you know your own personal tastes to jump onto some DC titles, I'm going to give Cyborg a chance as the creative team really excites me.

How does the quality hold up on the 12inch screen?
I may trade my new one in and upgrade again at the end of the year, just for fun I ran my laptop through my smart TV to see what it was like on a 52" screen - not as bad as I thought it would be but I couldn't read the lettering, shame!

I've fallen in love with digital for my monthlies just don't have the patience I want my books now!!!
If something blows me away over a whole storyline I will get it physically in the trade from my LCS, as it's a very small village shop he doesn't hold many single issue titles unless specifically ordered so he is closer to a book / trade shop than an old skool comics shop with all the back issues etc. He reads monthlies digitally too so we trade codes and he gives recommendations still like he normally would but he told me he couldn't survive with the old business model.

I think the fact that #2 was the 2nd of only 3 books I managed to read last night shows me that my anticipation for this story from #1 was higher than I had realized and I think with pretty good reason.
I'm really enjoying the artwork and overall tone of the book, the lack of 'smash-you-over-the-head' explanations just adds to the overall mystery behind events and it feels like there is a relaxed freedom to the storytelling due the nature of the set-up. I'm not collecting any tie-ins so will have to see what those that do feel they add to main book - very satisfying so far and not the direction I had anticipated.

I have a Samsung 10.1 tablet which has the S Pen built in and has the Wacom technology built in, I've found the screen is a nice size for reading so when I upgraded to a more powerful tablet for home I kept this and use solely for digital comics.
I use PerfectViewer for file management and viewing and I find it really easy to use. The only addition I made was to dig deep for a good size SD Card [128GB] which with the existing internal memory gives me 144GB which I have about 60% filled so I have a huge amount of my collection available to me portably which is fantastic.
