Yeah I loved it as well. Will be picking up the next issue for sure and most likely a lot after that.

I adored this. I have read it so many times that my copy is becoming a bit tatty (that's ok, I've bought a second one!).

Ok...so I suppose I'll be the odd-man out on Gotham Academy.
Could not get into it at all. I think it's the massive YA vibe, which is not a genre that calls to me. The mystery of Olive's relationships with both the other students and whatever she was like the previous year did not catch my interest. The ghost mystery felt half-hearted and unsuspenseful (and I know they will develop it later in the arc). The Bruce Wayne cameo at the end felt like it was trying too hard to impart the gravitas the rest of the issue failed to do.
I was not enchanted with the pencils; it was competent but unremarkable. However, the coloring was amazing! The greenish, ghoulish lighting as Olive and Maps were waiting outside the office for the headmaster was masterfully done, and the sunsets were prosaic streaks of autumn rusts and golds.
I know that this represents a new kind of story and approach and even audience, and I think that is fantastic. It just wasn't a story I could get into.

optimus - They haven't said 'when' it takes place, but it's in Gotham, or just outside it.
Issue 2 was great. Read it thrice, and I'm interested to find out more about Olive's history.

Does anyone have any idea at this point who Olive's mom is? A friend and I were both trying to figure it out the other day; brainstorming possible names, but neither of us have much of a clue about who might be a strong suspect. But clearly it's a Gothamite. A rich Gothamite, more than likely. And we feel like it's likely that we might know her already/that she already existed in the Batman universe before this book. And she clearly had a run-in with Batman "over the summer" and was . . arrested? Or maybe not arrested, but ended up getting hurt in a Batman incident, or maybe both? And the whole "my mom's not crazy!" thing is interesting, and then of course the end when Olive's standing in the fire all badass and she's like, "I am my mother's daughter" and all that. I couldn't come up with anyone that would be age-appropriate in the New 52 and a likely suspect, but damn I want to know!!

I honestly can't think of anyone. I think that's why I like that cliffhanger so much.

I'm super intrigued. I adore this book so much!

I am desperate to know who Olive's mum is. I loved this ending and am very excited to get more of a handle on Olive's character. I didn't feel like Issue #1 gave us much to go on with who she is as a person but when she fearlessly took charge of the situation I felt like I was going to enjoy getting to know her.

The first two issues have totally knocked my socks off. The art especially makes me happy every time I see it. So much fun!

Three is the best yet! I love this series so much. I love how every week they expand the world and the story just a little more. And I think Maps wins at Cutest Character of the Year. She just cannot get any cuter!!
