Officially announced a Feb 12, 2016 release date. Honestly thought this movie would never be made.
I think pre-test footage I would have doubts. But I think Ryan Reynolds and the team behind this have the best intentions possible.
Now its up to the studio to shatter them. Fingers crossed they don't. I think the thing I'm most excited for is how they make fun of Wolverine Origins.

What does everything think this movie will be rated? Not sure how they can get away with anything less than an "R", but I know the studios probably wanna snag a "PG-13" for more profit. Most fans I see want an "R" though.

So I must be in the minority, I have no problem with an PG-13 rating, deadpool has never been known for cursing and the film shouldn't be a gore-fest. Overall, I'd like to see Brian Poshen's Deadpool. Fourth wall breaks are important but lets keep them to a minimum so they remain both surprising and endearing. Reynolds should do a great job, as spotty as he can be, I think this may be something he might actually care about (of course people said that before Green Lantern came out). As far as plot they should keep it simple and tight (run time between 90-100 minutes) with one of the old baddies, maybe T-Ray, re imagined for a modern audience. Cameo's would be good, but again keep them few, surprising and brief this is Wade's movie after all (Maybe Hugh Jackman in a dream sequence or something). I loved the deadpool game but, that being said, we aren't making a film version of that. This should be something that can live in the same universe as the rest of Fox's X-films. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that Marvel's films have been so successful because they focused on making good films first. If the filmmakers attempt to do what all the fan-boys want and basically give us a giant pile of 90's vintage pop culture references (even updated for modern times) this thing will be a mess. Unfortunately this movie has the potential to be worse than almost any superhero movie we've seen so far. Wade's Humor always rests on a knife edge between hilarious and irrelevant. It might also be worth keeping in mind that the funniest comic movie so far was Guardians of the Galaxy, which was at it's base a straight forward space opera, if it had been made as a all-out comedy it could easily have fallen flat. Deadpools humor should reside in creating seemingly ridiculous situations and playing them off straight.
Im sure a few will disagree about a few things but these are some elements the movie will need to be successful in my humble non-movie-making opinion.

Any Deadpool book I've read that is specifically written to be violent and with bad language always relies too heavily on the violence and swearing for the humour. Joe Kelly's amazing run as well as bits and pieces of Daniel Ways run I found the most fun were in the breaking of the fourth wall, general wit and references to other pop culture/comic based properties. One of the funniest moments in Daniel Ways run for me was the fight between Deadpool and Bullseye in a slaughterhouse. Deadpool is choking Bullseye with 2 hooks and screams at him "Say it! SAY IT!" and Bullseye says "Get your damn meathooks off me!" The game was fun, but it was all F this and F that and blood and guts which I get is funny for some, but Deadpools humour has always been in the clever writing and self awareness. I think as long as the writer knows comedy it won't be a problem. Guardians of the Galaxy could be a Deadpool movie if it wanted. The jokes in that were hilarious. Adult enough to be funny, tame enough to avoid the R rating. Taking all that into account, the fact this will be roughly set in the Fox X-Men universe gives it SO much material if they want to really let rip. Everything about Wolverine Origins for one. The confusing timeline and backtracking its done for DOFP, how much everyone hated 3.

I also agree that I don't think Deadpool needs to be R. His book isnt incredibly more bloody than other ones out there. If Wolverine doesn't have to be R, Deadpool doesn't either.

I am not sure where the notion that the film was being pushed to be rated "R" came from, I know the test footage was "PG-13" and I thought that it was perfect. Say what you want about rob leifeld, he made some valid points (though most were just stroking his ego) when the test footage came out. Most deadpool books aren't over the top with language or gore, the majority of deadpool fans would be excluded if the film was rated "R" because or their age (deadpool is generally one of the most popular cosplay characters and generally it is younger teens who do it, or flock to those doing it), "PG-13" can still have the violence and dismemberment we are accustomed to from the teaser it just can't have gratuitous blood splatter.
I for one am kind of over the oversaturation of deadpool as of late but am still interested in the movie. I would also like it to be successful, making it an "R" rated movie will do nothing but hinder that.

Yeah, I see everyone's point and revise my initial statement that "I can't see how they can get away with anything less than "R"." I guess I was just listening to the noise of the internet, lol. They could easily do many of the recent Deadpool stories and still have the violence DP is known for without the blood and gore. And JoeState is right, a PG-13 rating would lead to more financial success.

I don't think that this movie should bog itself down with aiming its rating in an intended direction. They should make the movie they want to make and let the MPAA make that determination. I understand the desire to want to make it PG-13 to open it up to a broader audience, but the fact that THIS is a bigger deal than actually just making a good movie worries me.

Its been confirmed it'll be PG-13. Which at first I was worried about but I saw a comment that said they could really capitalize on that rating eg; bleeping out swearwords, black bars or blurs on nudity and things like that. Would just add to the absudity of it all which sounds fun.
Okay this has to be the most brilliant comic book movie related April Fools joke ever and I fell for it as always, every single freaking year.
Deadpool will be R rated as confirmed in this amazing video posted by Ryan Reynolds. www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=118053
I am so excited for this movie.
