Melissa, Mara and I will be launching The Missfits VERY SOON and we want our first show to be extra special. We're trying to avoid doing the same discussions as would happen on the regular Talking Comics podcast or on Comics or Coffee (even though we'll have different opinions and such), but we ask you:
What do you want our first lady podcast topic to be?
Oh, and if you have any questions for us to answer on the show, please send them in to us here as well.

You've mentioned trying to avoid the same discussions as the regular TCP, but what is your vision for the lady podcast, what angles are you trying to hit, which itch are you trying to scratch? - Beau

Not necessarily a feminist podcast as we aim to have normal roundtable discussions about what's going on in the industry, but addressing concerns and issues as they come up. We're nailing down a lot of it now, but I guess what we're asking is what would everyone like us to talk about? Listeners have been asking us to do this podcast for a while and we're obviously really for it, but you'll be the ones listening and we want your opinions and what we should be discussing. Make sense?

Listeners have been asking us to do this podcast for a while and we're obviously really for it, but you'll be the ones listening and we want your opinions and what we should be discussing. Make sense? Yep, perfect sense. I sort of figured that would be the idea, but didn't want to jump to any conclusions. I will most definitely be tuning in to see what you gals have to say. As for topics, the easy ones to hit are things like the way women and men are draw in comics, the roles they play in team comics, and/or the way a particular female character has developed over the years(for instance you could have Bob guest host and talk about how Susan Storm of the Fantastic Four has changed over the years, both in regards to her powers as well as her dynamic within the team, etc.) What do comics need to do to bring in a larger female audience? Are titles that contain a female lead, such as Batgirl/Batwoman/Ms.Marvel/etc, written to a different standard with regards to action levels, emotional levels, romance levels, dialogue, etc.? What kinds of things do publishers do that either alienate or attract women to their titles? That's just some stuff off the top of my head. If I come up with anything else I'll edit it into this post. Good luck on the podcast and be sure to let us all know when it's coming out! - Beau

I think focusing on female characters, writers, and artists is a great idea. It doesn't have to focus on how women are over looked on in the industry, or how their portrayed badly, even though they might be, but just an area to focus on in general. The regular podcast has so much content to cover that a lot of stuff is missed. I would have never read Wonder Woman if you guys hadn't talked about it on the show. She just never appealed to me, same way aquaman didn't seem appealing. Then I heard you guys talking about it, thought I'd give it a try and read all the new 52 that was out. It's one of my favorite, the artwork is just.... fucking awesome. I would listen just to learn what she hulks up to, has catwoman gotten any better, what female writers have great work I might not have heard of. Just have fun with it.

You all have probably already discussed this in other forums, but sharing some personal histories about how you all got into comics and why comics are important to you would be a great start.
I also know some of y'all are fans of Manga and would love to hear y'all discuss favorite stories, creators, and recommendations for people (like me!) who want to get into Manga.
Another topic could be y'alls thoughts on male writers who have made a name for themselves writing female characters. I'm thinking of writers like Terry Moore, Brian Wood, and Greg Rucka. What have they done well and what could they improve on?
Also, per commentary from creators like Brandon Graham, do you think male creators need/should take a more active role in seeking out female collaborators?
Looking forward to the show!

Explain what you favorite series was for 2013 and why and what your least favoite series was and why. I think this would give the listeners a really good idea of your likes and dislikes right off the bat.

Each week spend maybe 10 minutes talking about a significant artist, creator, inker, letterer, or behind the scenes mover and shaker that happened to be female. Or, the genesis of female characters, whether they were thought up by men or women.

I think it would be great to get a female point of view on big titles. Anything from Batman to The Walking Dead to Spider-Man.
More just to see things from the other side (so to speak). I know it would be quite interesting to hear what it is you all might get in terms of enjoyment from them compared to what a male reader would, if there's any difference at all!

This is a hard one to describe, but let me give it a go. Do either of you ever feel pressure to have an opinion because you are women? For example, are you ever reading something or presented with a situation and feel as though you should have an opinion specifically because you are women? Otherwise, are there times when you look at a situation and say "This has nothing to do with gender, and I'm not going to make it about gender - THIS is what I think"? If this doesn't make any sense I can try again

I really enjoy talking about the social aspects and interpretation of "gender issues" within the comic (and gaming) worlds. I feel like the TC podcast covers books and stories very well, perhaps we should delve in a little deeper? You know, in between talking about cats and proper lunging form.

Turning things unnecessarily into gender issues a bit of a pet peeve of mine. But, some feel if you don't go there that you're understating the importance of women being badly represented in comics and games, or that you're somehow disloyal to your gender for suggesting gender issues aren't always present. And... well, I'll save it for the show.
