Listened to josh tranks interview with Kevin smith and I got the feeling he did really care about this film and it being a lot closer to the source material than expected. I've heard lots of rumours of stuff going on behind the scenes with tranks tweet being the latest twist. If you watch this video blog from collider its gets even more interesting. I think I'm in tranks corner for this. youtu.be/97hBpwl582YI listened to these podcasts and enjoyed them. He really does get Ben Grimm as a person. I think not seeing this movie would make me uninformed on the topic at hand. I'm going to see it.

Should be no spoilers (though I'm not sure how you spoil a film where nothing happens)
OK so why is Fantastic Four Bad? Well I've seen the snarkier more vitriolic reviews and, while I know some of these are people dog-piling on something they perceive as an easy target, it really deserves every criticism it gets. The film has so many problems, continuity, silly special effects, a terrible villain, and a basic disdain for the source material, but the biggest nail in the coffin of this film is that its boring. For a very large chunk of this movie people sit in rooms and stare at computer screens (if I want to see that I'll look in the mirror). In an age where we've grown tired of origin stories, this tells one of the most extended origins (i'm relatively sure it's 45+ min, or half the film before we see a super hero) I've seen in a super hero film ever. Paradoxically, Even though we're given all this time with these character I feel we don't really get to know them. Ben Grimm seems to be utterly devoid of motivation or characterization. Sue Storm is probably treated the worst, though talking about her "arch" would get a bit spoilery, so I'll just say she seems to barely be a member of the team. To get it right out of the way, Doom somehow looks even worse than he did in the trailer, however that isn't even close to the worst thing about him. Doom's powers are almost as ill-defined as his motivations. His arch seems to be "oh, well I guess I'm evil now." The production problems come blindingly through in a narrative which seems to be cut and pasted together at the last minute by a studio exec resulting in a whole that is short yet still seems padded. While I don't think super hero movies need to be non-stop action, they do need to have some action. This may be the point to warn that several of the shots in the trailer don't even occur in the movie. The last thing that is truly sad about this movie is that there are some really great actors here. Michael B Jordan, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell all seem like really good actors (sorry don't really like Miles Teller and find him to be over-rated). Bell especially has nothing to do here. So yeah overall I give this one a zero out of ten. I don't want to hate it, but there isn't anything here to love. The film has no joy, no hope, no heart. This film is ugly studio rights-tending at its worst and has no legitimate reason for existing.

After watching the film. I dare say the 2005 film doesn't look so bad anymore.

After watching the film. I dare say the 2005 film doesn't look so bad anymore. i actually watched the previous two after i saw the new version. And it was almost like a breath of fresh air! Im a bit biased though because even though it has many faults, i really find enjoyment in watching them from time to time.

I agree. And l got to say there is already a great Fantasic Four movie that was made. It was just called "The Incredibles". Ill watch that movie over and over if i ever want to get the true feel of the fantastic four comics.

There's some potentially very good news on this front; nothing confirmed, but there might be a chance that the rights to comics' first family might be returning to Marvel in a trade for X-Men TV rights, at least according to Den of Geek
...and all thanks to Sarah for the information!

Turns out FOX and Marvel both refuted it; it was some dot connecting by the writer.

Not that this takes the sting (or stink) away from the film, but it is hysterically funny!

I'm glad to see that Fox have pulled Fantastic Four 2 from their schedule!
