I was so disappointed with the mockingbird book. From issue 1 i could tell what the author was trying to do and it all just turned me off. I wanted to love that book.... good art tho. What i am most looking forward to is some more street level stuff. Daredevil has gone in a direction story and art wise that im not in to..... i enjoy dd every month but im not crazy about it....... ive been reading waids run again and it really got me wanting to feel that way about DD again..... on that note, Black widow is freakin amazing right now........... i want to feel that way about more books.... i'm drawn to the street level characters.... Jonathan, Have you checked out the re-launched Power Man & Iron Fist? It might be up your alley!

I want to first off say that I really liked this movie, the third act was just great and the Vader scene at the end was fantastic. But...there is always a but, beside Jyn, there was no backstory or emotional connection to the other characters and I think that hurt the first two acts for me. Matt, If I had one complaint about the film, it's that I wanted more from that second act; a greater depth in character development might have made the set-up flow a little more smoothly, even without cutting anything else out.

So far The Flash and Green Lanterns are my favorite books. Im thoroughly enjoying those two titles. Suicide squad is a ton of fun and jim lee is killing it on the art. I gave batgirl a shot and i still just don't care about what they are doing with her. Birds of prey is a bit better but i still am not interested. Superman has been a blast and as good as ever. Batman is just another batman book to me. Tom King is a good writer but people have made him out to be the tom brady of comic writers and i just dont see it? Its not bad, i just dont get the hype................ i am looking forward to super sons.......... theres more im forgetting, il post more later. Jonathan, I think that across the board, readers old-and-new are each finding their own sweet spots in the Rebirth titles, and that speaks well for DC's efforts. As a huge Barbara Gordon fan, I want to love whatever book she appears in, so I'm always in there for the start of something new. For me, the latest Batgirl got off to a shaky start, and then picked up steam; not tons of it, but enough to keep me around to see what will happen now that she's back in Burnside. That said, the book's on a short leash. I stuck with Batgirl/BoP through the reveal of the new "Oracle", even though, just as you, I wasn't particularly thrilled at what I was reading. For me, the Yale/Ostrander reclamation of Babs as Oracle, and followed by the Dixon/Simone BoP runs, represent one of the best "saves' in comics history, and her presence as the leader of the Birds is sorely missed. Still hoping for the "Rebirth" of the JSA!!

I was all in for the previous Marvel Now...... And it led me to so many amazing books that i previously was ignorant of. That "era" of Marvel has become a bit of a facination for me. I enjoy collecting those issues still and i often get lost in my marvel now long box..... good times.... If they can capture that feeling for me this time around i will be excited...... we will see! So far i enjoy all the books that i have been enjoying for a long time..... Cap, Uncanny xmen, black widow, thunderbolts........... I am also an unapologetic Inhumans fan.... I try to not get drawn into the negativity.... i am really enjoying the inhuman stories that have come out these past few years. Jonathan, As you say, the original "Now!" books and their follow-ups were instrumental in bringing all sorts of interesting books and creators to the fore, some of which are amongst my favorites as well, so here's hoping for something similar with this effort!

Hi Bob, I don't know when or if you'll be taking nominations for the Hall of Fame, but I wanted to shout out to Gail Simone's first run of Birds of Prey. I'd be disappointed if this did not at some point make the list. Thanks! Kara Kara, We are still sort-of sorting the mechanics of how we're going to approach the mechanics of our new Hall of Fame, but you must know that I love your suggestion! For right now, we're going to open with a small selection of books whose iconic runs occurred during our show's history, and we'll also have some "All-Timers", with the initial selections focusing on the Golden and Silver Ages to create an august collection of the most important books in comics history...or at least that's the plan. (You've already heard of our "First Class", and they are that in every sense of the phrase!) Each year, we'll be adding books to the Hall, and modern titles will be part of that as well, so Ms. Simone's BoP would make a fine addition! Happy New Year!

Dearest Forum Friends,
Although it's been a very quiet year around these parts (even if it's been a turbulent one both in general and for Talking Comics in particular!), that doesn't mean that this community has been anything but the welcoming place that it has been in the past. In fact, based on our correspondence, internet contact, or personal interactions with you wonderful folks out there in "radio-land", I'd say that we are more inclusionary than ever before, the fact of which I'm most proud.
To all of you, no matter which "event" you celebrate (even if it's Marvel's "Civil War II" I guess!), you have all our best wishes for a glorious holiday season!

Any discussion on the Star Wars story? I saw it and quite enjoyed it, I am relatively certain I am not alone in this. I am interested in hearing the thoughts and opinions of our favorite podcasting pundits. Maybe even some discussion of the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer. Moreover I am curious if the inability to have a Rogue One spoiler-cast is bothering Ms. Wood? These are the questions that come into my head when I stop at the bar after work. Kevin, As you'll see on another post on this topic, I've just seen Rogue One, which puts me about four viewings behind Dr. Mara! I'm sure that even during "Awards week", we'll certainly be discussing this fine new addition to the Star Wars universe!

Hello everybody. Just saw Rogue One. I am not an Star Wars affiicionado but have seen all the movies in the theatres during their original release date so I'm an old timer. I loved this movie. I will go so far to say (and Mara this will probably piss you off) it is better than A New Hope In my opinion the 2nd best Star Wars after Empire Strikes Back. The hook for me is the emotional connections between all the characters. It takes a lot to get me to get teary over a movie. Jyn and her father, the plea of Saw to Jyn, seeing how the Deathstar was used against individual cities which to me which I can't adequately explain was more wrenching than the destruction of Alderaan plus so many more. Maybe because at a contextual level it is closer to Empire than the other films is why I love it so much. The acting overcomes in my opinion an average script. Felicity Jones knocks it out the park. I wish they had explored the Cassian character a little more but Luna is good in his role.Mendlesohn as Krennic steals the show. I love that the movie grounded itself in the reality (SPOILER ALERT) of the probable outcome of rebels/revolutionaries. No sugarcoating , no surviving impossible odds but the acts make the legend and inspires the rebellion to go on. I really have only 2 major quibbles with the movie. If he was there as comic relief I did not find K-2SO that funny I don't know if it was the lines or how they were delivered but I only laughed at maybe one of his "jokes". And the use of Vader in his scene with Krennic should have been on the cutting room floor. If they had saved him for the boarding of the rebel ship at the end and had disguised it as Tarkin saying something on the com link like " The rebel have the the transmission. Stop them"The way it was filmed with the storm troopers breaching the the ship and in the darkness you hear Vader's breathing before he opens his light saber would have drove the audience wild. But still a movie I believe Star Wars fans should be proud of. Outlaw, First off, a belated "Welcome!" to the Forum...and a "Happy Holiday!" to boot! I just saw "Rogue One", and without giving away too much of what I'm sure we'll be discussing on-air, I'm in almost total agreement with your points, particularly about Cassian, whom I'd love to learn more about. Frankly speaking, i'd love to learn more about all the new characters, as even in limited time, they were all great additions to the mythos.

Friends,
Last evening, with great anticipation after many delays that were beyond the control of the film-makers, I was thrilled to be able to pop a DVD into my player and watch Marty Langford's "Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four". We've twice had Marty on the show discussing both his documentary and the famous "lost" Corman FF movie, so for all of you who were intrigued, his film is now available through Amazon!
Here's the trailer:

Hi All, we read all sorts of comics and graphic novels in our house. My 8 year old daughter has really taking a liking to this and is really keen on collecting her own series. We tried the My Little Pony series and Princless but she keeps coming back to looking at Marvel books. We currently have A-Force on the go but not too sure this is easy for her to follow? Any suggestions? She is drawn to female characters but is familiar with all the major male characters! Thanks! Dean, First off, welcome to the Forum! MLP and Princeless were great choices, and if you can, keep up with those titles, as they are certainly in your daughter's wheelhouse I would think. For a Marvel book, A-Force is a superb book, but just as you say, a little dense in terms of "Marvel History" to be perfect for a young reader. I might suggest Squirrel Girl or Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat, but with the caveat that they both require a good knowledge of the Marvel Universe, with SG being a bit more grown-up, although not inappropriate in any major way. For me, the perfect recommendation would be Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, a brilliantly written and drawn all-ages series that features a precocious nine-year-old who states that "My brain is the only super-power I need!" (This will be the subject of our next Book Club, by the way!)
