Hey Bob have ypu ever read Five Ghosts from Image Comics. It's written by Frank Barbiere who wrote the Doctor Strange annual from Avengers a while back that was enjoyed on the show. It's a very pulp style story followed an Indiana Jones type character named Fabian Grey. The twist is that he can call on the ghosts of five famous literary characters to gain their skills. The creative team took a break after 17 issues and an annual but recently teased it's return. If you get a chance I recommend the first Image trade since I think it would be up your alley. Bobby, I certainly read the first trade some while back, as it was in the discussion for "Best New Series" for its debut year. I remember enjoying it, but as with so many other things, it drifted from my radar screen...old age, I guess! I'll have to search out some newer issues--thanks!

New stuff on the podcast tomorrow! Although you've already heard, I think it proper to point out that our first "guest co-host" will be taking a seat for tomorrow's recording! Long-time TC contributor and friend Melissa Megan, host of the Sirens of Scream podcast and co-host of the Top Shelf Book Club will be joining us for the next episode, and I couldn't be happier!! I know that we'll be having a great conversation...one for the ages...trust me on this! In that "rotating seat" over the next few weeks, we're blessed to have with us some fabulous TC contributors, a "Comic Book Valkyrie", and perhaps some creators, to boot, so please let us know what you think of this new addition to our show!

IT'S MISFIT APPRECIATION DAY!!!Take the time to read some of the great tales that Gail Simone told using Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe, the "fan-girl" who becomes a hero in her own right, proving herself a more-than-worthy "Bird of Prey" for Barbara and the crew on numerous occasions!

Sam,
I think that on the whole that the digital code is a great idea, but I do wish that DC wasn't raising the price to give it to us! I realize that it does cost something to create the mechanism that will deliver the content to consumers, but I question that it would be a dollar-a-pop! (Of course, Marvel was "giving" us the codes for "free", but as the majority of their titles were already $3.99, it was a hollow gift!)

Been a fan of the podcast since about April of last year. Really started enjoying comics with Rebirth Name: Michael Where I'm from a suburb west of Chicago. So basically Chicago How I Got Into Comics: I enjoyed them a lot as a kid but really got back into them with Rebirth. What I'm Reading: Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Batman, Batman Detective, All-New Wolverine, Old Man Logan, Spider Gwen, The Wicked and Divine. And basically anything they suggest on the podcast. Prized Geek Possession: Spider Gwen Statue Michael, Welcome to The Forums! The "Rebirth-ed" titles were a great way to rekindle your love for those titles you read years ago, as the various creative teams are striving to recapture the vibe of those earlier books! ps) How about a picture of that Spider-Gwen statue?

Sam, I was just speaking to your doppelganger during our D & D recording! Haha, I hope your adventuring is going well, Julian! So this isn't a new release, but it's available on Comixology Unlimited right now. I just started reading Sword and it's pretty cool! It's about a girl who gets an ancient sword with god-like powers. It's accurately described as a mix of Buffy and the Fugitive. I finished the first volume and I'm ready to read some more! Sam, There's some...intriguing stuff in that episode, that's all I'll say! Is that "The Sword" by the Luna Brothers? I read and enjoyed a good chunk of that, as Steve brought it to our attention many moons ago!

I hear the Superman Reborn storyline is pretty great. Has anyone been checking it out? Sam, I was just speaking to your doppelganger during our D & D recording! I'm going to have to go and read some of those issues, as by all accounts they are fabulous--and I need to know what the heck is going on over in Superwoman! This week, I've so far picked up these: Ms. Marvel #16 Batwoman #1 PWakaH #16 (Penultimate issue--*sob*) Thor #17 WW '77 Meets The Bionic Woman #3 Giant Days vol 4 Avengers: Steed & Mrs. Peel--The Comic Strips (reprinted for the first time since 1967)
Blood Stain vol. 2 will be in for me next week (who knows why?)...so no spoiling it for me, all you Sejic fans!

Simon,
It is going to be impossible to replace those special insights that Dr. Mara brought our way, as she is a most singular person!
What we can promise is that we will always try to push the boundaries of what we all read, hoping to find those books that too often go unnoticed...that, and to try to get Mara to do bi-monthly shows about Manga and Star Wars!

I'm super excited about Super Sons #2! I really like the dynamic between the two leads and can't wait to see where they go with it. I'm also getting Blood Stain Vol 2, Patsy Walker, World of Wakanda and Batwoman #1. What's everyone else excited for this week? Giz! Welcome to the Forum...unless I did that already and have forgotten; not that I'm taking it back, but there's no double-dipping! Some stores are getting Blood Stain 2 this week, but I'm not sure about my LCS, but I am still very excited about that, as well as Batwoman, and I'm always happy for new issues of Ms. Marvel and Thor, but I'm a bit sad, as I think we're nearing the end of PWakaH. I have one outre entry on my pull list this week, as I'm picking up a trade collection of the 60s comic strips featuring The Avengers--meaning Emma Peel & John Steed!

Is nobody going to talk about Dr. Mara Wood leaving the weekly podcast!? Matt, You beat me to it, as I was going to post something here this evening in advance of my proper on-air farewell to The Good Doctor. As I said on this week's show, Dr. Mara Wood came on board during some tumultuous times, and with her brilliant organizational skills and a great passion for comics, both in concert with her academic outlook on the four-color medium, she brought something new and fresh to the Talking Comics podcast. More importantly, Mara is simply an amazingly caring and giving person, and having gotten the chance to meet her at the last NYCC, she is even more "Mara-velous" in person! She will be missed!

Matt,
Well, they certainly missed some perfect tie-ins, didn't they?
When I was a kid, reading Metal Men and Metamorpho were great ways to pick up some quick science stuff, much as you can today with "Nadia's Neat Science Facts" in the pages of the Unstoppable Wasp!

I guess I should have done this when I first started posting on the forums. Been listening a long time and have loved it all. I'm enjoying the book club. I would not have Clean Room without and it is now one of my favorite comics. Thanks Guys! Name: Matt Where I'm From: Denver, Colorado How I Got Into Comics: When I was a kid, my mom would go to our downtown in the place I grew up to get her hair done and right next door was a comic book shop. As she was getting beautiful, I would wander around the comic book shop. Eventually, I started buying. It was glorious 80's Incredible Hulk, Punisher, and Wolverine. What I'm Reading: Nailbiter (which is ending soon), Superman, Nightwing, and Clean room. Prized Geek Possession: I have a T-shirt that is the periodic table but with superheroes (Marvel and DC) as elements. Matt, A belated "Welcome!" to you! Clean Room is something very twistedly amusing, isn't it? ps) On your shirt, I would hope that the Metal Men are well-represented? ps) ...and Metamorpho, the Element Man! rrr
