I'm just really proud of myself that my recommendation for this episode wasn't simply, "Robin Lord Taylor."
Thanks so much ladies for having me on again - I think it was a great discussion about Captain Marvel and I hope everyone listening enjoyed it!

Update: I have since been playing Shadow of Mordor myself and can reinforce my recommendation by saying that it fucking rules. Hope that was helpful.

Hi guys really enjoyed the podcast and I know that you were primarily focusing on Kelly Sue's run but I did want to mention the very important/controversial/strange events of Avengers #200 ( The Rape of MS Marvel). It really shows the way many female characters used to be treated and highlights how far Carol has come these decades. Id be really interested to see what Bob's views are.

Wamphari (Michael?), You feelings reflect mine completely; to address your question, I'll plagiarize myself, and reprint this bit from an article I wrote entitled Top Ten Avengers Stories: Lowest Avengers MomentAvengers #197-#200
Scripted by David Michelinie, who did fine work on this and other Marvel titles, but here-in takes the hammer and tongs to Ms. Marvel, making her the un-wanted carrier of an inter-dimensional “love-child”, after the birth of which, the Avengers, despite evidence to the contrary, let Carol Danvers depart with her new “husband/rapist”. This debacle would later be addressed in Avengers Annual #10 by writer Chris Claremont (who had worked on the original Ms. Marvel” series), and although it didn’t re-set things, it at least gave Carol an opportunity to express her feelings of betrayal to her once-and-future teammates, and to allow those of us readers who were appalled at the time to rinse a bit of the bad taste from our mouths.

I first watched a video about that a few years ago and was shocked. It's one of those things that you don't really believe until you see. I mean this is arguably worse than ending up in a freezer.
(mike, michael, just don't call me late to comicon)

(Let's hope that this brief discussion doesn't lead anyone into perusing this abomination!)

Great podcast as always, good call on Dead Boy Detectives. I really like Toby Litts novels and as soon as I heard he was writing Dead Boy Detectives I knew it was a perfect choice. Erskine and Buckinghams art is perfect for the tone of the book as well.

Though I'm not sure if that, or just letting be forgeten, is preferable.

Several points, from the episode and the comments here:
(1) I actually really didn't like Captain Marvel vol 1 (issues 1-6 of the initial Kelly Sue run), because from a storytelling perspective, it felt a bit disjointed and not sure of where it was going. I'm generally ok with miniseries, but this had been presented to me as an ongoing, and volume 1 didn't feel like it was going anywhere. However, after hearing a few interviews with Kelly Sue (including a REALLY good one on the Nerdist Writers Panel, not to mention her appearances here), where she discusses frankly that she wasn't sure at the outset if it was a limited series or not, I've decided to give it more of a shot. I did read volume 2, and liked it, and will be trying to pick up more of the trades soon. (Ms. Marvel vol 1 just came out, and I had been waiting for that to drop before I bought any more trades.)
(2) Off topic, but related to a point brought up in the show: I could really see Black Widow showing up in Cap 3: Civil War (or whatever they actually call it), since she has strong ties to both Cap and Tony in their respective individual movies. My hope would be that they springboard from THAT into the Black Widow movie that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WANTS.
(3) The comments here brought up the Rape of Carol Danvers, which ... is kinda one of the worst things ever (at least in comics). However, it did define the character for a long time, particularly in her time with Chris Claremont -- and led to one of the most epic moments of that era, where Carol calls out the entire Avengers team for not helping her -- so as much as I loathe that the story exists, I also think it would fundamentally alter the character to simply retcon it away, so I hope they don't. I wouldn't mind a reappearance of Marcus (I had to look up the name of the character), and/or Immortus, to revisit the story and the trauma, and see how this Carol, Captain Marvel, addresses it (not to mention how the rest of the Avengers react to one of their greatest failures being thrown in their face, again).

We tend to label broad changes in tone that take place in the comic industy, examples being the Death of Gwen Stacy and the birth of the Silver Age and the Dark Knight Returns beginning the Modern Age. Would you guys agree that with Fraction's Hawkeye and Kelly Sue's Captain Marvel runs that begun in 2012, have we not just witnessed what could be considered the birth of a new age of comics?

Hopefully some people will check it out if they haven't yet. Also, if you (this is more of a general you) are on tumblr you should check out the Missfits tumblr! I and other Missfits guest contributors and Missfits are posting whatever catches our geeky fancy there.

Enjoyed the discussion of Kelly She Deconnick's run on Captain Marvel, but I wondered if you guys will look at the current run? Being a huge sci-fi fan, I am enjoying it more, with the Star Wars/Alien/2001 references and everything

Being a huge sci-fi fan, I am enjoying it more, with the Star Wars/Alien/2001 references and everything I've been reading the current run of the series. I really, really like her interactions with the Guardians. That, and the fact that she will have a movie gives me hope that Marvel has an idea of where she belongs in the cinematic universe. What's your favorite part of the current run?

What's your favorite part of the current run? I have to say that I like the relationship between Carol and Tic. With the absence of her usual supporting cast, Tic makes a nice sidekick. Also, the current run is a nice fulfillment of Captain Marvel's lifelong dream of being a space explorer. It takes me back to UXM #164, when she is telling Nightcrawler about being torn between space and her ties to the earth. Now we get to see 'real world' (galaxy?) implications of this realized ambition
