Every comics fan has done it, we've all created our own superhero team composed of our favorite heroes and developed by dream creative teams. I figured since NFL has started and a lot of my friends are deep into their Fantasy league drafts, well, by now their drafts are probably done, right? Well, I did my won fantasy draft. The All New Marvel Now New Young Avengers. I'll start with the creative team:
Writer: Jen Van Meter. Creator of Hopeless Savages and currently writing Dr. Mirage for Valiant
Artist: Annie Wu. Damn, I'm loving her run on Hawkeye. She's just great at expressions and fun panel layouts.
Covers by Joe Quinones. Because Joe Quinones. It's a no-brainer.
Team: Keep in mind that I'm not exactly willfully ignoring continuity. I like all of these characters but really don't know what has happened to them all, if they're still in the world or in a book somewhere. It's Marvel, it's comics, there's a way to put them all back into play if the story demands it.
Team Co-leader: Prodigy, David Alleyne. He's done with superheroing, or so he thinks, and is applying his big intellect to solving ecological problems like Colony Collapse Disorder at a Permaculture school.
Team Co-leader: Nomad, Rikki Barnes, the Girl Out of Place. This is the Bucky Barnes from the Heroes Reborn planet that Franklin Richards made. I think. She's teaching outdoor recreation for inner city kids.
I was thinking arcs could alternate between them as point of view characters.
The rest of the roster:
Ms Marvel, Kamala Kahn
Power Man, Victor Alvarez
Slingshot, Yo-Yo Rodriguez
Luna Maximoff
Phobos, Alexander Aaron
Victor Mancha
Pixie, Megan Gwynn
My idea is that the Inventor, Ms Marvel's first villain, has adapted Ultron tech to turn recently hatched, new Inhumans, to power batteries for his strange technology. I don't know, I haven't thought about story ideas yet, not as much as I've thought about the line-up. But you know, there's always tech that goes haywire, or AI that becomes autonomous. This story could go lots of places.
I'd love to see some other fantasy teams, if anyone's game.
