Steven Soderbergh does hour-long-format premium tv (Cinemax), starring Clive Owen as a opium/cocaine-addicted-but-brilliant surgeon in New York at the turn of the 20th century working to revolutionize surgical medicine, and a bunch of excellent character actors doing interesting character-actor-y things. And that's pretty much alls you need to know. I think it's absolutely riveting thusfar; anyone else watching?

The scene of actually surgical work and results are absolutely frightening.
I am surprised anyone ever survived any procedures.
The nose things was way over the top for me.

Oh yeah, it's definitely chock-full of scenes that have made me squeam. In a good way.

I have fallen a bit behind and will catch up over the next couple evenings so I'm set to watch the rest of the season on time.
