So today starts the LONG waited Multiversity project by the master of making your head hurt: Grant Morrison!
I loved this issue! Very interesting ideas and love that some are so rooted with what we saw in the finals issues of Final Crisis and the concept of the Multiverse.
Also I liked the information about more earths:
Earth 8 -Pretty much DC's version of the Marvel Universe. Earth 7 -Based on DC's own website, this is pretty much another version of Earth 8, most likely an Ultimate or Movie-verse version. Earth 23 -"Black" world or the Earth in which the President Superman lives Earth 11 -Gender bend world. Earth 33 -Not more information was given other than Superdoom seems to reside them there and it SEEMS that their Flash and Green Lantern are in a relationship.
And while not given an Earth number, we know there is an Image Universe-like out there as well by having Dino-Cop being pretty much Savage Dragon.
I can't wait for the next issues!!!

I loved it too. Cartoon physics was a particular high point for me!

Not to say that it was bad or anything, I just felt like I had seen it before, just not on quite the same scale. Maybe it was just because he was using alternative versions of characters we'd seen before, and the return of some themes, characters and locations from Final Crisis (Which I didn't like, and thought was out of continuity at this point).

Alright well, cards on the table, I've not been a huge grant morrison fan from the begining. He does some really great stuff, but he also did a run on x-men that I thought was among the worst takes on the characters I've ever seen. My X-men opinions aside, this book just felt kind of goofy and unfocused. The not-so-subtle nods to other publishers seemed kind of crass and silly. None of these characters seemed interesting (with the exception of the monitor, who is in the book for like 3 pages). The final thing I had a problem with involved the avengers clones. Recently Hickman included a group of Justice League stand-ins for his New Avengers book. Hickamn treated these characters with great respect, in many ways hinting that they were morally superior to the Avengers they were fighting. I feel like a Justice League fan reading the story would not feel ill-treated, and that their character had been treated with... Justice (yeah pun intended). I felt Morisson was actively trying to make the avengers look rediculous in comparison to the awesome justice league. It seemed kind of juvenile and petulant. The writing itself seemed mediocre, the art good but nothing to write home about. Ok end of rant, don't hate me, I hope everyone else really enjoys the book, and has a great time with these new characters. Sorry Sorry Sorry

Sorry Sorry Sorry Well, it's not my board or anything but I don't think you need to apologise for having an opinion! Surely discussing our opinions about comics is what the boards are for... FWIW, the Avengers analogs in this issue have been around for a long time - they certainly featured in the early issues of the Giffen / DeMatteis Justice League in the late 80s. Lord Havoc and his cronies from that Earth showed up in the Justice League books of that period too - analogs of Magneto, Dormammu and Dr Octopus spring to mind. Weren't the various Earths of the multiverse always populated by alternate versions of existing characters to a large extent?

I on the edge for this book, and looking to see where it will take us. my biggest down side to the book was the constant reference to the comic book reflect another universes reality. it has been done and it gave us Superboy prime, who is child suffering from the temper tantrums.. i mean done and dusted..
on the other side of the coin we are getting to see characters from the other universes, and captain carrot is so cool.. love the comics of the zoo crew when I was younger...
so lets see how the story unfolds, to early to be saying either way..
ps it has to be better than 'Katana' lol

I have to say I was impressed with this book, but aside from a few things, Morrison does not dissapoint. The art was very solid, and the story-telling was Morrison doing what Morrison does. I loved the "Cartoon Physics" line. I'm sold. I feel like this is going to be a mind-bending journey that will require one to two strong beers an issue. This overall reminds me of an old-school crisis, but it did feel oddly removed from the rest of the DCU, but it's been one issue, so I won't fault that.

What I find interesting is that the subsequent issues will (at least for a big part) won't follow this story but rather show us other words.....but knowing Morrison, he will leave hints and Easter eggs about the main story even in the middle of moments that have nothing to do with it and (I hope) will make them work.
Between this and Spider-Verse I'm so hyped about the later half of this year/early 2015.

Loved Multiversity SO much. It made me pick up Crisis on Infinite Earths because its just one of those things that always make the "Maybe next time" list. And I did that in one sitting. Took a whole day, very dense but so good. And then reading Multiversity again was great because there were characters and references that I spotted and could appreciate more. Only thing is Crisis has made me want to read a lot of pre-crisis stuff, but its all only been collected up to the 100's, but there are 350 issues for some of these characters and are only available in the black and white Essential editions which is such a bummer because I want to read the trial of the Flash leading up to the final issue and I refuse to read such a colourful book in black and white. Guess I'm gonna have to track down the singles.

I read Crisis on infinite earths for the first time, two years ago, and re read it a few months back. I'm slowly working through all the Crises, only thing I'm missing is the lead up to Infinite Crisis (which I forgot to buy today, and am kicking myself in the head for not). But I'll be reading as much old-school dcu as I can. This book re-kindled my interest in actual collecting, which is kind of nice, except on the wallet.
