I've always found that shop owners either fully embrace and utilize this day or completely loathe its existence. There seems to be very few people with neutral feelings on the subject, atleast from what I've read and heard from people.

Glad somebody started this thread. Melbourne is lucky that it has 4 comic book stores that all take a massive part in FCBD. Myself and my little 7 year old buddy Mario dressed up as Spder-Men today (myself as Peter and him as Miles). His dad recently left Australia to go join the army Sudan and the poor kid is devastated. Seeing him have this much fun was amazing. On top of that, while lining up a woman came up to us and asked if we could get a photo with her son who absolutely loves Spider-Man and who we found out has terminal cancer and is only 4 years old. As we were getting the photo he quietly asked me "Why are you buying your own comic book?" and pointed at the copy of ASM #1 I was holding. This broke my heart but made my day. After the last couple weeks of hearing and reading about bullying and negativity in comics, seeing the joy this brings not only us but kids really felt great. It reminded my not only that comics bring so much joy to kids, but just how important Spider-Man is as a character for them and us older people too. And after seeing so many negative comments regarding the latest Spidey film, I couldn't care less because there are kids out there who only see the important things about it. Anyway, I thought the Talking Comics crew would appreciate this story, especially because I know how passionate they are about getting kids to read comics Also here's a photo of our costume efforts. Cheers and Happy Free Comic Book Day!
