So, I'm cruising Netflix streaming service. Omigosh, what to watch? What to watch? And they offer me the choice of browsing anime. I never watch anime. But wait, the Missfits, they are always talking about anime (and manga), maybe there is something there? So I check it out and decide to watch Samurai Champloo.
Holy Cow! What amazing fun! Joy! Discovery! I have no idea what you three think of SC but I wouldn't even have gone into the room if you hadn't taken me to the tipping point.
So, anime on Netflix, what do you recommend???

Ahhhh I'm SO glad that you watched SC! I only ever saw bits and pieces of it when it was initially being aired but I own it and will get around to watching it in full someday. megamaramon is probably the person to ask this question to, but I'm pretty sure Attack on Titan is on Netflix. It'll punch you in the feelings, but it's worth watching. What do you use to stream Netflix? There's also a service available on Roku, PS3 and I'm sure Xbox called Crunchyroll that's exclusively anime.

Discovery! I have no idea what you three think of SC but I wouldn't even have gone into the room if you hadn't taken me to the tipping point. So, anime on Netflix, what do you recommend??? FYI, the Samurai Champloo soundtrack is my go-to rainy day music. It is incredible! On Netflix, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Ouran High School Host Club, Eden of the East, Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, Trigun and Princess Jellyfish are all favs of mine on Netflix. I have really weird taste when it comes to anime - I'm all over the place, from bloody stuff to sweet-girly-romantic comedies. Fate/Zero, Okami-San, and Blood + look good, and I want to check those out! Hulu has a lot of anime as well. Check out Bleach, Samurai 7, Casshern Sins, Eureka Seven, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Deadman Wonderland, Death Note, Darker Than Black, Nana, Inuyasha, Naruto, Speed Grapher, Slayers, Le Chevalier D'Eon, RideBack, Tenchi Muyo!, Wolf's Rain, Kimi Ni Todoke, Baccano!, Fairy Tail, High School of the Dead, Zakuro, K, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. I don't know how Hulu works without a subscription, but these are some I like/want to watch/have heard marvelous things about. Now, Crunchyroll is for the true anime fan who wants to stay on top of all the new stuff. Crunchyroll is free, works a lot like Hulu. You can pay $7 a month to get same day streaming on brand new anime from Japan, and the free service gives you access to episodes one week after they air in Japan. There are TONS of new anime there, most of it ongoing. That's how I got hooked on Attack on Titan and Free! You won't know what you love until you just dive in and try it. Anime tends to be more different than similar, and it's all a matter of taste. Let me know what you end up liking!

I own all of Samurai Champloo on DVD, and just like Mara i love that soundtrack. Don't know if its on Netflix but if you like SC i can definitely recommend Cowboy Bebop. Its from the same director that did SC and its pretty great.I can also recommend Rurouni Kenshin.
Haven't watched anime in a long time but i think i'm gonna jump back in with Attack on Titan(as soon as i can find it)because that sounds like a show i would really like.

Seconded on Cowboy Bebop. Episodes aren't conveniently located anywhere, but Adult Swim puts up a few from the series from time to time. The DVDs are out of print right now, but I believe that they are releasing it on Blu-Ray soon. You'll definitely want to buy it, Chapin, because it's everything you've ever wanted in a 26-episode series. Bounty hunters in space, jazz music infused with Western styles, running from your past, and just enough of a love story to absolutely break you in half.

If the Evangelion films or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, are on netflix I'd recommend them. Both are reasonably recent and beautiful to look at, the plot to FMA Brotherhood is a little more straight forward than the Evangelion films, the first one (Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone) is reasonably straight forward then they get a little odd.

That was quick. Attack on Titan. One of the deadly sins of working at home ... you start a series and it's addictive to a Breaking Bad level ... and suddenly your Friday is gone and all you've got out of it is 25 episodes under your belt and still -- really -- no idea what's going on. (Live in the question, Chapin!) Fantastic show. Loved the very simple situation, loved the growing complexity, loved the characters, loved/hated the cliffhangers. It was emotionally over the top -- the way these things are -- but that suits my temperament just fine (comics are way over the top emotionally, too). There was no shipping (this 47 year old divorced male, not interested in teen romance). And I loved the fact that while there was some (a little) humor, there was a complete absence of irony. My life does not need any more ironic detachment. Thank you for this recommendation!

Just wanted to say I love the show, and based on your recommendation I took advantage of a recent Luna brothers sale on ComiXology and really enjoyed The Sword, and I think Alex+Ada might be one of the best comics I've read in a while. Usually when I pick up a large collection, like The Sword, it takes me a while to get through, but I could not put it down. I read issue to issue in about two days. The artwork is not as exaggerated as many mainstream books so when something horrific happens it is so much more effective. A comic book rarely brings me to tears, but the last few pages of The Sword hit me pretty hard. Thanks again.
