So I've been reading Ultimate Spiderman in trade since Volume 1 and I have up to Ultimatum. I'm going to read through to the current stuff once I figure out how to work Cataclysm in.
Once I'm done with the Ultimate Line, I want to jump on to Amazing. I've read some of the stuff right before the JMS run and have decided that I want to start my Amazing Collection with the JMS ultimate volumes and work through to present day.
The problem I am having is in trying to figure out if I can just pick up the Amazing trades and get the whole story. Considering at some points there are three core titles I want to make sure I'm not missing out on crossover issues.
Do you guys have any recommendations for this ambitious undertaking?

Pre-Brand New Day during the JMS time can get a little confusing, because I believe there were like 3 or 4 Spiderman titles at the time. While there are a lot of great events in that time frame such as Morlun, Civil War, and Back in Black, you may want to start at Brand New Day.

This is a great list and thanks for the help. It kind of confirms what I thought though. Some of the collected editions leave things out. I'm going to have to pay close attention if I want to get the full spiderman experience

Check out "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut", that's one of my favorites. It's only two issues and pretty old but the story is great. "The Commuter Cometh!" from Amazing #267 is a great one off story. "Death of Jean DeWolff" and "Kraven's Last Hunt" are two other classics from Spidey's black suited, darker era. Also, the first 100 issues are all done by Stan Lee, pretty much quintessential stuff. But that was so long ago the character has been established and re-established so many times since. Not sure if you're looking to go that far back. Anyway, I loved "Brand New Day" and just about everything they've done since with I guess a few exceptions. But if you really want to catch up quick, you could probably get like "Ends of the Earth", but Dan Slott has said that he has been building up to his current "Superior" run since #600. Good luck!

So here I am all excited to start putting together my 616 spiderman collection when I stumble across "Sins Past". This has ruined JMS Spiderman for me. I might as well start at Brand New Day and pretend that Marvel didn't completely ruin one of Spider-mans most heart breaking and character defining moments. It's strange but I feel as if I have been betrayed by Gwen with Norman. I'm disgusted by it really. Normally comic book things don't affect me emotionally but this feels personal for whatever reason. Rant rant rant. Now I see why Bob dislikes the JMS run so much.

When does Slott's Amazing run start (issue wise) His run starts at issue #648, the Big Time storyline. You would want to read issue #600 as well.

When does Slott's Amazing run start (issue wise) The start of the Big Time arc (Which is now collected in Omnibus) so issue 648 I think, but he did do some issues before that. I think he did about 559 to 570 something as well.
