Flasshe, Another person from Denver! i can't tell you how much the time change from here to New York messes me up when i'm posting my reviews. :-P Where do you pick up your books? I'm currently on this ridiculous goose chase every Wednesday to find all of the books i want, and sometimes i have to hit three or four different shops. anyway, just wanted to say hi. we should make sure that we rub our sunny, warm weather in the faces of all these new yorkers. :-) I pick up my books digitally from the Comixology store... no room for more physical media in my house... Back when I was buying print comics, I got them from All In A Dream on E. Colfax. Ray knows his stuff. As for the weather, a look out the window tonight shows white stuff coming down... Ah, right, you did say that you were getting everything digitally. i envy your restraint (and your ipad.) As for the weather, they don't have to know that!

Good afternoon!
I started listening to the Talking Comics podcast about 3 months ago and it quickly became my favorite of the 3-4 comic's podcast's that I currently listen to. I've managed to make my way over to the forums finally and the obligatory first stop - the Introductions folder. So without further ado....
Name: Beau, though I usually sign my posts with Raider30. Where I'm From: Iowa, USA How I Got Into Comics: I started collecting when I was a kid. What I'm Reading: A lot more than I used to....Fantastic Four, Justice League, Justice League of America, Velvet, Letter 44, Legenderry, Batgirl, and at least 20 others on my pull list. Prized Geek Possession: Tough call - too many cool things. Right now it's probably my NM copy of Fantastic Four #131 that my wife got me for Christmas(book date was February 1973 which is my birth month and year.)

Raider Beau (I'll go with both for now!),
Welcome to the Forums!
Let me warn you in advance though; listening to our show and participating in these Forums might cause your pull lit to grow!
Your wife came up with a very inventive gift--kudos to her! You not only have a collectible. but one with instant sentimental value, too! Beyond that, it's a fun issue featuring the Inhumans and Quicksilver from Roy Thomas' run, and it features a great cover by the legendary Jim Steranko!

Thanks for the warm welcome(useful on this -temp day)! Too late for the warning on the pull list. I've get enough already from DC/Marvels's current titles that generally speaking I won't jump onto any of their titles based on other's recommendations(can't let the beast grow too big you know), however, I've picked up Letter 44, Velvet, and Imagine Agents based off of podcast's(though I'm not sure if Imagine Agents came from TC or a different one). I also have just completed a run of the 2004 Marvel Team-up by Kirkman that I heard someone talking about on a podcast(could it have been TC?). Now that I've got them all I can commence reading them. Yes, I was really thrilled about the comic for Christmas. She's actually an excellent gift buyer in general but this year she hit it out of the park. This is the 3rd comic related item she has purchased for me. 2 years ago it was a copy of Fantastic Four #39, not NM, but minimum VG-F range with beautiful cover colors/gloss(which is great because the cover is fairly dark in scope so the colors that are there really pop), and about 6 years ago a single share of Marvel stock, which came with a certificate suitable for framing(worthless now since Disney bought them out and since it was only a single share it wasn't enough to convert to Disney stock so they just paid out - but I kept the certificate!). One more quick thing - I saw you mention a print of Alex Ross's Fantastic Four No. 1. I've got the same print framed in my home office/man-cave. Small world! - Raider30

Raider,
Fantastic Four #39 is one of my favorite covers! That image of Doctor Doom at his most menacing, looming over our powerless heroes, completely sets a mood of oppressive dread. It's wild that the drawing of Daredevil is by Wally Wood, who also did the interior drawings of the Man Without Fear in that issue!
I know that Steve is a big fan of Imagine Agents, so you might want to blame/credit him!

FF is, hands down, my favorite comic of all time for a variety of reasons(this isn't the forum thread for it, but I could probably go on and on about FF). It's what I spend my lawn mowing money on 30 years ago and to this day I'm still working on(slowly) getting a complete run. Not likely to happen, but my goal is to eventually have 100 and up, then I'll work to have #75 and up, and then #50 and up and...well you get the picture. - Raider30

Raider,
It's been my pleasure around here to be the gateway to new readers appreciating the Fantastic Four, so there are probably more fans of the FF around here than on many general comics boards! I know that my good friend Huw (one of our moderators!) is in the midst of reading through the run for the first time!
Good luck on your collecting quest--grab that Holy Grail of issue #1 before it ends up priced like Action Comics #1 !!

Good luck on your collecting quest--grab that Holy Grail of issue #1 before it ends up priced like Action Comics #1 !! No kidding! I should probably explain to my wife that FF #1 is an *investment* and that's why even a relatively beat up copy would be great to have. Unfortunately she knows me too well and would simply reply that for it to be an investment it has to be sold at some point, and that's when she would just calmly stop talking and look me right in the eye knowing full well I would never sell it and thus ends the conversation. I'm really not all that far off on my dream. I've probably got about 475 issues of FF, most of which come after issue 100(only have 16 of the first 100 - including issue #52 that I bought for $8 in 1983 at the ripe age of 10. I'm also proud to say after 30 years it is in the exact same condition I bought it in). Honestly if I would have focused only on FF over the years I'd probably be within 10-20 issues of having the full run. But of course then I would have missed a lot of other good stuff that's out there. - Beau Ps: not to confuse but I think I'll go with Beau from now on. Just seems more fitting in these friendly confines.

Beau it is!
Well, your wife is right about that investment thing! Sadly I didn't think along those lines myself when I bought my Fantastic Four #1. in 1985, instead of only picking up the $200 VG copy (which I was going to have Jack Kirby sign), I should have also bought the NM copy that was slighty-overpriced at $1200, since Metropolis Collectibles sold one a couple of years ago at *gulp* $300,000!

Chris,
Welcome to our snark-free Forums!
I would say that our community is in total agreement with you that comics should be fun; we may not all agree as to which specific books will make that so, but that's one of the fun parts!
Another X-Men animated fan; it's been interesting how many of our members are citing that series and Batman: TAS as their gateway to comics reading! As I keep saying, the studios need to do a better job linking the TV and movie stuff to the books--there are new readers waiting to be lured in!!

Aaron,
Welcome to our Forums! It's good to have another fan of the Burton/Keaton Batman films around in case I need back-up!
Next, may I say "Thanks!" for finding my rantings engaging; I do wonder sometimes if folks out there are scratching their heads thinking "What is he on about this time?", but having heard from so many of you about your new-found love for the Fantastic Four, maybe I'm wearing you all down!

Started listening to the podcast ever since the Joey Esposito Footprints interview (somewhere early 2012). Really loved the comradery between the podcasters and light-hearted tone. Been a regular listener ever since. You guys make me laugh out loud regularly making my morning commute a lot more fun. Im always a few episodes behind though so I just found out about this forum yesterday while listening to episode #115.
Name: Boy Location: Rotterdam, The Netherlands First Comic Exposure: Spider-Man, Tintin, Donald Duck, Asterix, Lucky Luke, Suske & Wiske What I read: Monkeybrain, Image, Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, everything really. When I Started Reading Regularly: I dropped off reading comics when I went to high school. Got back in years later when I spotted a little BKV Runaways Digest on a counter rack somewhere. Blasted through it in no time and went to the comic shop the very next day to pick up the first 2 HC's. Been back ever since.

Boy,
Welcome to the Forums! It sounds as if you started with Talking Comics before I did!
Your tale of leaving comics for a bit is something we hear a lot of--glad that you're back, and have fun around here!
