Welcome to the Talking Comics forum, everyone! We hope to make this a safe, fun and thriving geek community for all to visit.
The first step to that though is knowing who's around. This is the spot to say hi, introduce yourself! Ok, I'm quite new to the world of comics, and having listened to the podcast for a good few months, this forum seems as good a place as any to jump in. Here goes.
Name: Jon
Where I'm From: The birthplace of Neil Gaiman, Portsmouth UK.
How I Got Into Comics: I'm a newbie when it comes comics (apart from the Beano and Dandy as a kid). I'm a Kevin Smith fan, so listening to his podcasts finally rubbed off, Also DC's New 52 made it a lot less daunting to get into. I've only been reading for around 8 months, but I've already found my pull list rapidly expand from 2 titles to currently around 30.
What I'm Reading: East of West, The Wake, Wonder woman, Batman, Saga, Manifest Destiny, Sex Criminals, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Movement, plus loads more

How I Got Into Comics: Unless you count reading Archie Double Digest's growing up, my official introduction into comics was Chew. I was looking for something to read for a trip and the book just caught my eye. And the rest, as they say, is history.
What I'm Reading: So...very...much. Comes with the territory though.
Prized Geek Possession: A signed, personalized picture with Christopher Lloyd (I know it's not very comic-y but Back to the Future was my childhood so it meant the world to me)

Where I'm from: Raleigh, NC
How I got into comics: Round 1 was Civil War. It sounded interesting, so I picked up the event. Then fell off immediately. I read a few major stories (Watchmen, Sin City, The Walking Dead), and finally picked up the hobby for real the day Avengers came out, starting with New 52 stuff.
What I'm reading: Batman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, The Movement, Superman Unchained, Red Sonja, Saga, East of West, Sex Criminals, Pretty Deadly, Morning Glories, New Avengers, Capt. Marvel, Hawkeye, Amazing X-men, Thor, and others that are either wrapping up or about to begin.

Where I'm from- Long Island NY
What got me into comics- we'll I was a big reader until the age of about 12 and them I faded away. I came back for ultimate Spider-Man and new avengers. Soon after I got pulled into back reading and so on and so on which leads me to...
What I'm reading now.- pretty much all of Marvel, that's my home base. I read DC too (Batman WW Green lantern and the JL.). Stuff from image and vertigo/IDW I prefer to read in trade, except.....
BEST THING IM READING - sex criminals
FAV SERIES of all time- powers. (Although I just read all of lock and key in a week and it's making a strong case)
prized item- my entire graphic novel library

Hello there, my name is Craig and I'm from leicester in Central England.
I'm 32 and have been reading comics for about 18 months. I have always been a superhero fan but not a comic book fan but with age the wait between superhero films has become more and more painful until it dawned on me that I don't have to wait for a fix I could just buy one! (Legally). I now realise what a fool I've been (song lyrics?) as there are so many good stories to get lost in that are more satisfying than any film could be.
I will admit to being a Marvel man on the whole but I am making a concerted effort to branch out and try new stuff and so far I've not been disappointed. With TC as my guide I'm currently enjoying The Wake, Saga, Letter 44, Locke and key (awesome), The JLA, Batman city of owls, Captain Marvel, GotG, Avengers, New Avengers, Nova and Thor god of thunder.
I don't really own any special comic items, I do however have a few large warhammer 40,000 hand painted tyranid models that look a lot like annihilation wave/brood drones I can't bear to part with!!
Hope I've not bored you too much, see you in the forum :-)

How I Got Into Comics: Via music. First Gerard Way's (My Chemical Romance) Umbrella Academy with the awesome Gabriel Bá & Claudio Sanchez' (Coheed & Cambria) In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 with Chris Burnham.
What I'm Reading: Rocket Girl, Super! Wonder Woman, a whole heap of X-Men and like ALL of the new Valiant Universe.
Prized Geek Possession: A signed drum stool from John Fred Young of the band Black Stone Cherry. Spent a lot of time chatting to me and being pretty damn awesome.

How I Got Into Comics: Genuinely? The Transformers comics of the early 80's and then the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles books of the late 80's/early 90's
What I'm Reading: After advice on twitter from the afore mentioned Cookie, I've picked up Animal Man, Hawkeye, Chew and Revival and have a lot more to get in the near future - I used to have a huge collection of Trade Paperbacks, but when my relationship with the former Ms.Monacle ended and I had to move out quickly there was room for 1 thing in the car - either my DVD's or my Books, the DVD's won out, and I'm back to spending on books.
Prized Geek Possession: An Imported stuffed Chocobo toy from Japan - yes I'm 34 - no I'm not ashamed.

How I Got Into Comics: I read some comics as a kid once in a while as a kid. My first attempt was the Marvel Civil War event in 2005 but I didn't stick with it. A year or two later, I ended up writing a paper about comic books for a language and gender class in college. I read a few graphic novels and a few random issues including the Killing Joke, Birds of Prey, and V for Vendetta but again, didn't really stick with it. I finally got hooked in 2012 with DC's New 52 and the release of the Avengers movie.
What I'm Reading: Batgirl, the Movement, Batman, Harley Quinn, Batwoman, East of West, Saga, The Manhattan Project, Sex Criminals, Pretty Deadly, Thor, Amazing X-men, Capt. Marvel, Hawkeye, and a lot more. Basically everything Daniel (edthehyena) is reading, I'm reading.
Prized Geek Possession: The first trade of the new 52 Batgirl signed with a personal message from Gail Simone. She's a personal hero of mine and I got to spend time with her last year when she visited a local comic book store. It was basically one of the coolest moments ever for me.

Hey, hey everybody! I am Melissa, I live in NY. I started with comics when I read Transmetropolitan (still my favorite) and caught Ellis fever. It's a nasty affliction. I'm currently reading too much stuff to list but many probably involve either scary things, Riley Rossmo or sci-fi awesomeness. I love Talking Comics!

Name: Luciano Twitter: arcticbeastFrom: Yellowknife NT, Canada How I got into comics: I started as a kid in the late 80’s. My parents encouraged me to read and comics was it for me. I have been in the hobby to varying degree ever since but I have always generally been reading at least one or two monthly titles. As life has settle down over the past few years I am in it quiet heavily again. What I’m Reading: DC- Batman, Superman Unchained, Batman Superman, Superman/ Wonder Women, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Justice League, Justice League America, Forever Evil and its 3 tie ins. Marvel- Deadpool, Thor, Cable and X-Force Prized Geek Possession: Amazing Spiderman 319 it was the comic that started it all. It may soon be eclipsed however when I receive the Batman Premium Format Statue from Sideshow Collectibles is a few weeks lol. Looking forward to chatting with you all, Happy New Year. |
