DC is planning a lot of things in 2014. One of those is ideas is weekly series. The first one, Batman: Eternal was announced at NYCC and would feature a rotating group of artists and writers but now we also seem to be getting more weekly comics in the form of Five Years Later and Future's End. What are your thoughts on weekly titles? Would you pick any of these titles up?

I'm certainly intrigued by the five year later series so I'll definitely give it a go. Batman: Eternal I will pick up and hope that it holds up to the Snyder Batman, because let's be honest we can never have enough of the bat. I haven't looked into futures end but if it was 3 weekly titles I feel like I would limit myself to only one or two because I have trouble keeping up with half the monthly series I read anyways.

Depending on the quality, I'd give them a try but they'd have to be immense in order to throw them on the pile. In the case of Batman: Eternal I'll be giving it a go but I won't be sacrificing the extra pennies I could be putting towards something new if it doesn't make the mark.
I prefer the monthly pick-ups as it is though. Reading so many titles it's nice not to have a foot in one fictional world more than others, you know?

That's my main concern with weekly titles right now: spending too much. All of these titles will most likely be 3.99. That's 4 dollars a week that you aren't spending on other titles, or spending ALONG with other titles. I will probably pick up Eternity no problem given the people involved, but I might have to wait and see on the others.

Quality is what matters to me when it comes to these series. I don't want just a quick cash-grab.

I'm on the fence about those 2. DC certainly has competent writers to guide these events, but I'm not sure if they match the output DC's architects from the "52" weekly series. Waid, Rucka, Morrison...is going to be a tough act to follow.

Optimistic, but cautious nevertheless. Funny you mention Rucka though because they talked about bringing him in for these. Imagine what that would have looked like

Sign me up for batman. The five year later one sounds like a cool idea so I'll give it a try. The price point really has to be worth it though. I'm trying to trim down as it is!

Eternal is the only one I'm definitely jumping on board with right now, given the team, but they'll need to think about 2.99 if they want to bring in the readers on the other two books. We aren't all made of money.

I'm tempted to jump on board with the weeklies, the last few countdown/52/trinity where all pretty good, its nice to keep the plot rolling week in and week out its a much more immersive experience.
I am a little torn in that I love Batman Beyond but am not too happy with the new 52 continuity changes to Terry, but I love a good time twist story, and the thought of Batman Beyond interacting with the current DCU is too tempting to pass up. (Much as Kyle Rayner kept me reading the much berated Countdown.)
So I think I'm down for Future's End however Eternal holds less appeal to me, just because of the creators involved. While 52 boasted the likes of Johns, Morrison, Waid, Rucka and Giffen - Snyder would be the only real draw for me on eternal, while Lemire and Azzarello combined with Jurgens and Giffens experience just feels a lot more solid.
Coupled with the amount of DC titles I've dropped in the last 18 months its a chance for me to get on board with them again. I suppose I should start a new thread really, on where I'm at with DC right now, yeah watch out for that!

I'm in a little bit of a different situation here, I'd love to pick these up, but prices where I am prohibit it. NZ prices mean that each issue is probably going to end up about $10, so I'm waiting for trade and I really hope that DC puts them out quick.
I'm really hoping we get to see some Booster Gold in Future's End, it seems like DC doesn't know what to do with him at the moment.

Seeing how DC is with the release schedule of their trades it might be a while...

It would be awesome to get an issue of Batman every week. I have a feeling that the quality could take a hit (as well as my wallet).
I'll probably pick up the first few issues and go from there. I already have Detective Comics, Batman, Batman: The Dark Knight in my pull so this might just be over kill. I haven't really heard anything else about the other two series though. I'll look into those.
I think bi-weekly would be way better.

Well I did a piece on Batman Eternal back when it was first announced and with five writers working on the book at once, hopefully it won't take a hit quality wise. If it were one author doing it all it would definitely take a quality hit, seeing as a lot of writers have trouble with bi-weekly, but with Scott Snyder, James Tynion, John Layman, Tim Seeley and Ray Fawkes working on it, I have faith. And I wouldn't worry about The Dark Knight for too much longer...it's cancelled in March.
