For me, the problem with Marvel right now is that there are too many excellent books to keep up with. I got back into comics with the New 52, but quickly lost interest and drifted back over to Marvel (I was a Marvel kid all the way) when I realized that DC was going for a house art style and grim and gritty writing and Marvel was breathing new life into superheroes and taking chances with a really diverse line.

I have heard how people who love DC have dropped most of there pull list because of the new 52 but i have come to realise that i did the exact same for marvel now!. I was a DC and started to read at marvel now and the books i was reading were ... Fantastic Four (stopped at #6) FF (stopped at #10 but i have getting back issues since it stopped at #16) Journey into Mystery (read 4 issues) Deadpool (still reading) Red-She Hulk (read all 10 issues) Uncanny Avengers (read 1 issue) Hawkeye (still reading) So i have dropped more than half my marvel books. I will be reading She-Hulk and Moon Knight in All-New Marvel Now however. (also has anyone realised that hawkeye is longest running book with it's original numbering by time not issues, Ultimate Spider-Man's series stopped at issue #40 or something so that doesn't count) This is something that has been mentioned in the podcast but I think that Marvel has officially switched to a magazine type of system for there comics. You can even see this digitally now when you look up your comics It is Secret Avengers 2013 and Secret Avengers 2014 instead of listing it in volumes. Even if the writing team stays the same you are having each run end between issues #12 and #16 I personally really like it because: 1) It gives people there issue #1 excitement like new 52 without a giant reset to the universe every time. 2) It makes it so that everyone get read a character and at max have to read 16 issues to get some real closure instead of 200 issue run 3) It potentially gives creators at least a 12 issue run to tell there story without worrying about being canceled half way through 4) If someone really like the a specific artist and they go for a second year you still get a longer story like seasons in a 2 show that have closure every season

As a new reader, I have to say the way Marvel is numbering their issues is incredibly helpful and also makes it far less intimidating to pick up a book.

When you see a book at issue like 550 or something I'm just like "ummm, no" lol. I would never have the time or money to go back into that. When I see a 1, I'm all over it =p

I think some long-term effects will be an overall reduction in the value of single issues. As someone who's been a trade-waiter for most of the time (looks better on my shelf) just getting back into the single issue market I can't help but feel it's lost some of its exclusivity and worth. Part of the reason why #1 issues are so popular is the idea that if the comic is really a hit your issue will be worth a lot, but with annual re-numbering they lose their value. If every run is only going to be around 12-16 issues why not wait for the trade?

It's not really a matter of how many times the restart a series at #1 that hurts value, it's the number of copies produced for today's single issues from the big 2 that hurts any type of collector value. The issues are too easy it get ahold of so demand for the issue is much lower than say a early near mint amazing spiderman book.

Another thing that is going to hurt in the long term: Iron Patriot and Silver Surfer are $3.99 books?! Are all the new books $3.99?
Crazy.

I think Silver Surfer is a bit of a niche book with a lot of buzz so the price doesn't make much sense to me. There is a bit of foot-stamping from me too as I want to be collecting a few of these books and they're pricing me out hehe Not interested in the Iron Patriot book but that price pushes the uninterested further away. Strange the difference a dollar makes, but if you have a set amount of money you want to spend in can be the difference between picking up 5 books or 3 books in a week. scouts1998 Deadpool and Thunderbolts haven't reset the numbering, have they? Good point on the She-Hulk book.

lennyreid no they haven't Thunderbolts became all-new marvel now at #20 and Deadpool will became all-new marvel now at #25 But they are not resetting the numbers. Deadpool looks to be staying in the 20's. I personally don't like the renumbering. My problem is it says to me that it's a great place to jump on and start but most of the ones are tried made me feel like I was missing all kinds of stuff. On the topic of this thread I was a huge marvel guy who only got Batman from DC. Now my pulllist is all DC with the exception if Deadpool. At some point I am sure I'll swing back or at least even things out but for now what's killing it for me at marvel is the double shipping, the price, the constant artist shuffling and the renumbering.
