Yeah I was very put-off by a litany of things in the first issue (which I think was Remender's intention, in retrospect), but it has indeed gotten way better over the course of the arc. And Murphy . . I mean, I'll read anything that man draws; he's a master.

i love it i agree that the first issue wasnt the best, it was good in setting up the story but i think a lot of the appeal of the story really come forward in the later issues. also the art man its so great the last page of issue 2 is just so beautiful. sadly my store has problems getting the comic sopmehow and its always way late so im only on issue 3 right now

Yes I am loving this book, lots of fun with a underlying message but add Sean G Murphy's art and it is spectacular the man just delivers awesome on every level - great book!
It's one of the few books that I get digitally that I will be buying the trade & mostly for the art-work.

yeah the art is fantastic. I'd never heard of SGM until Chrononauts last spring and immediately fell in love with his style, which matches the tone and setting of this book so well.
I think as far as how it has progressed, the first issue was "here's a fast-paced movie-trailer idea of what this world is about" before heading into much more character development in issues 2 and 3, which sets you up for what happens in 4 and 5, and it has worked really well. Issue 5 in particular just broke my heart.

In my opinion, Rick Remender does a great job of telling long form stories and taking the story places you might not expect.

I couldn't agree more with all you guys have said. I am an issue behind since I get this through DCBS but this book is everything I have come to expect from Remender's work. It's fast paced with compelling characters, great plotting, and execution. He has a way of taking a story one way and then flipping it on it's ear and ripping your heart out. I really don't understand how he doesn't get more love on the show with the great titles he puts out.
And the art, Murphy's style is perfect and really brings this world to life. I loved in either #1 or #2 the amount of detailed references to other books or social media post making fun of Remender or Murphy themselves. Then to switch gears and move into the utopian setting of the Garden while still maintaining so much detail, it's great.
I swear I don't know how Remender is fortunate enough to get work with some of the best artist in the business. I mean Tochinni, Opena, and now Murphy. Dude is either living a charmed life or he has a hard drive full of compromising photos...

I don't know... Remender seems to be the king of making it look like he's written himself into a corner but somehow not only getting out of said corner but turning it into some kind of bizarre origami, blowing his nose on it, putting it in the dishwasher and having it come out awesome.... not sure exactly where I was going with that....

finally read #5 and WHAT THE FUCK? !!!!! "What the Fuck"... I'm pretty sure Remender smiles every time someone says or writes that! I've read most of his work and heard a lot of interviews and the great thing about Remender is his stories are planned out and outlined so far in advance that he doesn't get lost in his own story. It's one of the reasons I trust his stories telling and enjoy his books so much. This one is no exception... Can't wait to see what happens next.

I only read the first issue a few days ago, but I was very impressed, as I am with all of his Image work that I read so far.

Like most books now it's hard to judge it by a single issue and it reads better as an arc... And it seems especially with Remender, it's hard to tell where the story is going until about issue 3. The moment you feel you have a handle on the the story, he flips it and goes somewhere unexpected.
