Is everyone freaking out yet?! Things are ramping up in the next three episodes of our shojo selection. What do you think?

It is so hard to only watch three episodes at a time.
I love that Kyoko is playing a DDR type game and the song she is dancing to is the theme song.
Kyoko and Sayaka's conversation in episode 5 really makes you realize how much Modoka and Sayaka don't know about the world of magical girls. Kyoko even mocks Sayaka for being so naive.
Kyubey is relentless in reminding Modoka that at any time she could become a magical girl if only she makes a wish. I really want want to know what Kyubey gets out of this.
It is interesting to me that Kyubey uses the word contract. It makes me think that the magical girls have an obligation to Kyubey.
Have they mentioned what happens to magical girls who don't keep killing witches? Do magical girls wishes stay intact if they die? For example in Sayaka's case, what happens to the guy she healed if she dies?
I might have to re-watch the first six episodes to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Thank you for doing the podcast. I might have never given this show a chance if it wasn't for your recommendation.

Haha, I finally figured out the podcast schedule so I won't be behind on watching Madoka now! Episode 4: Miracles & Magic Two things that struck me in this one. That very strong sense of other worldliness or shifting realty that Sayaka and Madoka feel at the beginning of the episode upon the realization that no one but them knows what happened. That in itself is why Mami would feel so lonely and desperate. The other interesting point coming from Madoka and Homura's conversation is, what is the real intent of magical girls? Are they just for killing witches, for justice, or for their wish coming true? Does it even matter if they are fighting the same enemy? Episode 5: There's No Way I Would Regret it I liked in the podcast when it was noted that Mami's magic had to do with ribbons (from seatbelts that saved her life possibly?), I noticed when Sayaka transforms she has musical notes because her wish had to do with restoring Kyousuke's wish to recover and play music again. Kyubey also noted that because her wish had to do with healing, Sayaka could heal faster as a passive ability. So I'm wondering if they all had secondary abilities? Kyouko came out of fire, so her magic stems around that element. Homura's conversations with Madoka are always very intense, especially about kindness being weakness and courage being reckless for magical girls. It's the first time mentioned that a wish could be a sin, and having the magical powers are atonement for it. Episode 6: This Just Isn't Right Can I just say how much I love Madoka's mom? She's full of pearls of wisdom: "Being an adult is hard for everyone, that's why they let you drink!" and "Can't expect a happy ending just by doing what's right." Anyways, Walpurgisnacht. Homura and Kyouko mention it. I looked it up in Wikipedia and it's the German name for "witch's night." It's a congregation of witches that occurs every April 30th and, also, is the founding day of the Church of Satan. So it is an actual event which I always find fascinating in anime or manga. Lastly, Kyubey's evilness has come to fruition a little bit. Especially if you think that he basically harvests your soul to make a more lethal magical girl. Not sure if that technically makes him a shinagami (grim reaper) or not. That'd be a good debate. Hope this wasn't too spoiler-ish, but now that I got thinking about things I generally tend to not stop lol. Ps. Magnettios, I also liked that Kyoko was playing DDR and eating Pocky!

Kyubey comes off like a recently hired manager that's all smiles and speeches about how he/she is here for the workers and to make the store better....next thing you know you're working twice the hours with half the pay
The thing that I question the most is his angle in all this. He obviously wants Madoka at full strength for some reason but he also seems a bit eager to let the other girls fight and possibly kill each other( although it may just be so that Madoka will make the contract just to save her friend)
As a huge fan of the show supernatural(yes I know a lot of people don't like it anymore but I do so whatever) Kyubey reminds me of deal making demons that grant wishes in exchange for your soul. Kyubey comes at these girls with the offer of a life time but continues to leave out little details like dead bodies stay in labyrinths or that the girls give up their bodies upon becoming magical girls.
To wrap this up, in my mind Kyubey is planning something at the cost of these girls lives and whatever it is, it ain't good

So, are we all agreed that Kyubey is evil now? The whole "taking your soul out of your body" thing at the end of episode 5 didn't really surprise me, but the fact that none of the magical girls had thought about it did. I assumed that they knew Kyubey wasn't doing them any favours, given that they can die as magical girls, that that are 'contracted' to fight witches, familiars and each other etc. Maybe I'm just too skeptical for shojo! I think spartan0325 has a good point when he mentions making deals with the devil, that does seem to be suggested by things Kyubey is saying - or not saying as the case may be.
I'm also a little worried about Madoka's mum, does she have a problem with alcohol or is she just a bit weird for telling her daughter to grow up faster so that they can go out drinking together?!
Also, I have a couple of questions about things from the opening and closing credits (thanks to Maria I'm now watching them instead of skipping through!) but I don't want them to be spoilery, where is the best place to take those questions?

I wondered if Madoka's mom had alcohol issues after the first episode(I think) when they had to drag her into bed when she got home but everyone was so chill about i figured she was just overworked

I thought it weird that she got home so drunk her husband and teenaged (I think? How old is Madoka supposed to be?!) daughter had to drag her off the floor, but acted like it was perfectly normal behaviour.

I know in Japanese society it is considered polite and usually obligatory to spend time after work hanging out at the bars with co-workers, it's just normally reserved for the Japanese businessman so it's funny that Madoka's mom is that way (then again, since she's assuming the roll of the financial supporter I guess that works?). I'm not sure if that would make her an alcoholic though, or if she is, then a highly functioning alcoholic.
