I found Dishonored for like $15 bucks at my local shop and picked it up. I played it for a little while but really couldn't get into it. I don't know why... there was nothing bad about it. It's actually a really cool game. I just couldn't get into it.
Then again, this was right about the time of last year that I started to not care so much about video games.

Hrm...any particular reason? I mean don't get me wrong, I play games with far less frequency now than I did when I was younger (life has a way of doing that what with work, life and the such) but I don't really see myself ever NOT caring about games. Then again I'm just one person so I'm genuinely interested in hearing your thoughts. And don't worry, Dishonored wasn't for everyone. I tried to get a friend into it and he hated it.

It's not that I don't care about video games at all anymore... It's just that they aren't what they used to be for me. Even two years ago I would get a rush from playing certain games and would go to IGN or other game news/reviews sites and read every article about every game. Now there hasn't been a game that's come out that's really stuck with me other The Last of Us and Guacamelee. I find myself playing a game for a couple hours, and then getting bored. I think it has a little bit to do with the fact that games are often times way to easy. I loved the challenge of playing games like Mega Man back in the day (or even the first couple Halo games). Now every game has objective markers and waypoints. You never get lost and even the puzzles are basically explained for you. On top of this I'm REALLY not into open world type gameplay. I'm just so sick of it. Almost all of the big games that have come out recently are in this category: GTA V, Arkham Origins, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 3, Skyrim etc. The list goes on and on. I just don't really have the attention span for that. I want character development, great story, and fun mechanics. I don't want a game that doesn't End. Basically, I just don't like where the gaming industry is heading. It's all just mindless violence with no story or challenge. It might just be me growing up, or it might be something else. I just don't get the same rush and thrill that I got from them 2 years ago. Which is extremely sad because I have been playing games since I can remember. TL;DR: Games are easy now, Too violent, I'm getting old, and I don't like Open world games.

TL;DR: Games are easy now, Too violent, I'm getting old, and I don't like Open world games. Oh I completely understand, and there was nothing too long in there for me. I was genuinely interested in your thoughts. In my spare time I dabble in game psychology and the process of which people go through when playing games so hearing your story was actually really helpful. What's more is I share a lot of the same feelings that you do. Not to the extent that you do, but to a degree in which I can sympathize. If you noticed, all the games in my Top 10, save for Tomb Raider and Ni No Kuni are linear games, or at least linear in the broad sense of the term. Even those two are considerably more linear than that of GTAV and other games of the sort. One is a visual novel, two take less than an hour to beat, three are short burst titles (play in small doses over time, two being on 3DS helps) and then there are the others, which all have a set path and well crafted, character driven story. So we have a lot in common, you and I. If you don't already, I'd suggest looking into the games of Atlus (specifically Shin Megami Tensei/Persona) and/or indie titles on Steam. Most of the titles in these categories should help with the problem that you seem to be facing. Sometimes the big developers don't make the best games. Sometimes its the smaller, lesser known studios that grab you. You just have to look

That's good. I thought that maybe I was the only person that feels the way I do (even if it's not to the same extent). Most of the people I talk to about video games will ask me "Did you play AC4 yet?! It's awesome". When I respond negatively about the game or that specific type of game they really seem freaked out. "But you can do whatever you want! ITS AWESOME!"
I want to start picking up some indie titles... but I am on an older Macbook. So I can't run most of the games, But I'm thinking about getting a PC later this year so maybe that will get me back into games.
I'm not giving up on games completely though. Just holding out to see which of these new systems appeal to me.
I was thinking about the Wii U... I have had the urge to play classic games recently, and their virtual console business seems pretty awesome, but I'm scared that it will fail miserably and I'll have wasted my money.
I just remembered that Fire Emblem: Awakening was an impressive game from this year. I couldn't put it down for a really long time.

Spelunky and rogue legacy are games that I don't stop hearing about. They're indies that are also on/coming to PSN. I've played Spelunky and if you're looking for a challenge.... You'll find it there.

It's so hard to find gaming time with a baby, it requires two hands and both eyeballs on the screen. I think the last game I played enough of to get any 'cred' was Skyrim, which kept me excited and busy through my pregnant year.
I have recently discovered The Room on my Kindle and am now playing Gone Home on my laptop, which is way more addictive than makes sense. I love puzzle games, can anyone suggest a good one?

Depends really: For puzzle games my easiest answer is always the Professor Layton series, since its the most traditional form of the answer (same goes for Plants vs Zombies/Cut the Rope/Where's My Water/Peggle ect) but since I noticed Gone Home as one title you mentioned there are plenty of titles like that I'm enjoying: Don't Starve The Stanley Parable Dear Esther Outlast (its more survival horror but the discovery/puzzle aspect is abound in its running time) To The Moon Still Life 1&2 Syberia

Machinarium on PSN is also a pretty fun Puzzler. It's more of a point and click type game but you really have to think to get through to each level. Even getting hints is a challeng. Great fun.
What system is The Cave on?

What system is The Cave on? The Cave can be found on: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, iOS, Ouya and Android. And I agree on Machinarium. Very underrated game

The Cave was a great play, especially if you're into that off beat Double Fine humour.
This year was a pretty light year for new games for me, the only ones I played that came out this year were Injustice, Saints Row IV and Rayman Legends which were all great games. Other than them it was all catch up. Played Dead Rising 2: Off The Record with my brother and that was great fun, and Deus Ex Human Revolution which was just amazing.

Thanks for the suggestions! Papo and Yo looks fun, but I don't have a Playstation, so I won't be playing that one. The Cave looks promising, I will definitely check that out. I have played Machinarium and really like that one.
