I have wondered, why DC has stayed at the 2.99 price point for most of their titles? Not that I am complaining. Marvel upping their prices to 3.99 has only seemed to help their bottom line it just seems to make the most sense to up your price to what consumers are willing to pay for.

maybe because they are not a money grubbing commercial entity like Disney/Marvel
there is also a difference between willing pay and no other choice

Let's not forget that DC were the first company to put a regular issue of a comic out at $4.99 with Batman and have done so with other issues. Convergence was the same, also.
Not all of their titles are $2.99, it's incredibly welcome that so many are! But at least with Marvel they offset the cost of paying $3.99 for a book with a free digital copy, which is a clever bit of business as it means their books get into more hands. DC don't included a digital copy and make you pay more for a tricky to get floppy print with the digital version included.
In short, both companies are pretty inconsistent with their pricing these days and there are pluses and minuses to how they both do business.

good point I buy all my comics through comixology so never realized Marvel also offered a free digital copy with their books for me that would make the 3.99 worth it, if I ever felt inclined to go to my lcs.

I just hope they keep doing it. Marvel is so expensive with the constant crossovers I've just given up on the company. They may feel everyone has forty to fifty dollars to get the whole story but they are wrong in my case.

I've always been a marvel guys and have just in the past year started reading DC. The one thing I really like is the separation of the stories in each book. Right now I'm reading Batman (TPB), Gotham Academy, Constintine, and Gotham by Midnight (floppies) and I like that I don't feel I have to read every bat-title to stay current. With the exception on Batman the other books are 2.99 which I really like, because if they weren't I probably wouldn't even try them or I would trade wait them. I wish I enjoyed DC titles more, but I have to much history with Marvel characters and the unlimited app just allows me to be immersed even deeper. I don't know why DC doesn't follow that model. I have been pulled into so many new characters that way.

I just hope they keep it that way, I can barely afford comics as it is.

Well slowly but surely, most of the 2.99 books are going away.

I feel like it makes more sense to to keep your books 2.99. I'm more likely to start a new book if its 2.99 and not 3.99.
If I walk into a comic shop on a light week and see a book that i heard people talking about, but i don't know the creative team. it all comes down to the price point.
some of the guys at image know this, why can't the big two?
