Mara, I think it's definitely a good idea to sometimes use shorter form material like comics/GN to boost participation. But I hope you don't abandon novels for book club! Maybe just give more than one month notice for more time consuming work?

I would suggest Armada by Ernie Cline (I myself am going to be starting it sometime soon), but his books seem to be fairly polarizing and may not be a good fit. People seem to either love or hate his stuff and it might not make for good conversation.  Island of Dr. Moreau would be a decent one. kind of short, lots to discuss, interesting story... but then with this crowd it's possible everyone has read it already |
