On that point of not letting anyone elses bad opinion of something upset you or ruin it for you. I know I let this get to me way more than it should. And it's just something that I and those like me need to work on. But also in defense of that way of thinking too I think its especially difficult, specifically in comics, film, basically any art form, that these days the loudest voices are the negative ones on the internet. And we've seen time and time again that if you shout long enough and loud enough those people get what they want. And that is where the majority of opinion gets its attention. Now there are different levels of the negative effect on opinion. But take the Batgirl variant for instance. there was a clear line in the sand with that. I saw just as many against as I did for. But look how it turned out, it was pulled. Then you look at the sales of books, success of movies. Ones that don't cause controversy even, they just divide tastes. Something that I might love might be hated by someone else just because its not to their liking. Its not offending them. But if enough people shout loud enough, this will affect whether this book stays on the shelf.
So on the one hand people like myself should try to just focus on the fact that we love something. But, on the other hand it can be hard to not react when someone has a negative thought on it, when opinions like that can judge whether or not fans will continue to receive it.
Thats why I think people need to spend more time discussing and talking about what they love and enjoy. Yes argument and controversy makes for interesting dicussion, but I personally never feel better than when I'm talking exictedly about something. You feel like you've achieved something.
Again, variety in opinion does make for good discussion. But, and this may just be because I seem to have widely different tastes than those on this forum, I have posted so many comments and threads beaming with excitement about something, being hopeful about something and I can't wait to see that notifcation symbol up the top later in the day/week to get feedback on it, only to have someone, for no other reason than to say they hate it, go on about how much they hate it. It's a discouraging feeling. And it doesn't achieve anything.
I'm sure there are others here like myself who come to this forum because they don't really have the opportunity to talk about comics and so on with people locally.
There's always going to be art out there you don't like. So rather than waste your time thinking about it, telling everyone how much you hate it, spend that time talking about something you love. Makes everybody happy in the long run.
