Hi Mara, to be fair time travel and alternate reality stories are my favorite. I know you don't want original series, but I will include in case Bob can talk you into it.
Original series season 1 (Tomorrow is Yesterday ep20, The Devil in the Dark ep26, **The City on the Edge of Forever ep29 ** favorite,) season 2 ("Mirror, Mirror" ep4, "The Trouble with Tribbles" ep15)
The Next Generation Season 1 ("Skin of Evil " ep22, " We'll always Have Paris" ep23, Season 2 Meh but "Q-Who" ep16 just because the intro to Borg Every episode from season 3 to season 7 Haha!
Deep Space Nine is good but was slow first 2 seasons for me
Voyager was a miss for me. I would have liked Janeway to be like her future shelf in the very last episode of the series but that's just me. Sorry spoiler alert!
We can like both Star Wars and Star Trek, but I love Marvel and could never get into DC so there is my thing. Your husband probably already told you but John Byrne run on Fantastic Four is great. That was my first comic I read so I could be biased. When you have time watch Steins;Gate ok I will stop now.

Thanks for the recs! I'm jumping around in TNG right now, and I am so impressed with the show right now. I keep hearing about Steins;Gate, and I think you might be the push I need to get it started.

Mara, I'd say go for ten, but five should be enough, I think, to give you a real flavor for the charms and virtues of the series. That said, however, my #8, "This Side of Paradise", is a Spock-centric episode that puts his internal struggles in sharp focus, so you might want to add that highly emotional story to your viewing list. Live long, and prosper.

Mara told us to go on the forum and list our favorite Star Trek episodes. I don't have as epic a list as Bob, but here they are, in no particular order, the top ten for each series that I've watched thoroughly:
Star Trek: The Original Series 1. Amok Time (Spock goes into heat; it's much better than that sounds) 2. This Side of Paradise (Spock gets high; also much better than that sounds) 3. City of the Edge of Forever (tragic time travel love story) 4. Balance of Terror (Cold War paranoia with Romulans) 5. The Trouble with Tribbles (Tribbles!) 6. Squire of Gothos (proto-Q messes with the crew) 7. Devil in the Dark (PAIN!!!!!) 8. Space Seed (I bet this Khan guy won't show up again.) 9. Mirror, Mirror (evil universe, and Spock with a beard) 10. The Naked Time (everyone gets drunk; it's about like you'd think)
Star Trek: The Animated Series 1. Yesteryear (Spock's backstory) 2. More Tribbles, More Troubles (More Tribbles!!!) 3. (Okay, I realized I can't remember most of what I've watched, since I watched them when I was a kid, but those are the ones I really remember)
Star Trek: The Next Generation 1. Best of Both Worlds, parts 1 and 2, and Family (they all form a story arc, so I'm counting them all as one; This is some of the best television ever made, period) 2. Elementary, My Dear Holmes and Ship in a Bottle (Basically a 2-parter with 4 seasons between them; Data and Geordi cosplays as Holmes and Watson, and Moriarty comes to life) 3. Deja Q (Q loses his powers) 4. The Inner Light (Picard lives an entire other life in 20 minutes and I just can't) 5. The Emissary (Worf's love K'Ehleyr is brilliant and wonderful) 6. Q-Who? (Q introduces Picard to the Borg. Thanks, Q.) 7. Data's Day (Data does stuff for a day. Including learning how to tapdance.) 8. Hollow Pursuits (Barclay has a holodeck addiction, not a porn addiction.) 9. Tapestry (Picard plays out an It's a Wonderful Life scenario) 10. All Good Things... (Best watched after watching Encounter at Farpoint; one of those rare conclusions to a series that I'm absolutely in love with.)
I haven't see enough of Deep Space 9, Voyager, or Enterprise to continue my list. I rely on Maria for all DS9 (BTW, Maria, I watched "Far Beyond the Stars").

Had to join, just to post about star trek. Darn love of Star Trek pulled me out of just lurking. I have always wondered if Jadzira Dax is considered a trans character? Also used to think that no other series could beat TNG until I started giving the other series I tried and found loving them all except for enterprise. I really wish I could defend enterprise but even Scott Bakula could not save it for me.

Anyway, I think the Trill could be used to talk about trans topics and gender identity, but I don't know enough about the character to hold an indepth discussion. I do know that the first episode featuring a Trill was in TNG, where a male who holds a relationship with Beverly is put into Riker, and then into a female body. Beverly completely rejects the female partner at the end, which the Trill takes in stride, apparently used to this reaction. That's definitely an episode that didn't age well.

I remember that episode now I wonder how many episodes in TNG and the Original series have troublesome concepts and have they reached a point where they are so bad they are funny.
