***Edit: Click here for the official Talking Comics "Best of 2014 Listener Input" thread!!*** The end of the year will be here before we know it, and with the end of the year will come the ubiquitous end-of-year lists. I've already started thinking about my favorite single issues and have about 10 pulled out of their boxes for a re-read. Is anyone else getting their lists ready? 2014 has been a great in comics for me, especially the last few months. We've had some great series, story arcs, and one-shots this year, such as Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Southern Bastards, the Empty Man, Nailbiter, the Death of Wolverine, the Edge of Spider-Verse, Batman Eternal, Gotham Academy, Arkham Manor, Batgirl #35, Rocket Raccoon, Seconds, and a bunch more! What are some your favorite comics of 2014, so far?

Hmm best single issue? That's a tough one! Off the top of my head there have been some AMAZING debuts and oneshots. Here are a couple of my faves! Batgirl #35 Afterlife with Archie #6 Gotham Academy #1 Edge of Spider-Verse #2 Jim Henson's the Storyteller: Witches #1 Ms. Marvel #1
...There are probably more but I'll cut it short here. There are still a lot more debuts to come before the end of the year after all!

For me, Gotham Academy takes the crown. When it comes to single issues, I'd say Gotham Academy #1, Ms Marvel #6 and Edge of Spider-verse #2. Special mention to the new Thor, #2, which took me completely by surprise. And all the Saga, always.

Nailbiter, Outcast, Thor, Southern Bastards, and Birthright have been my favorites thus far. Single issue for me would have to be Southern Bastards #4

Single issue for me would have to be Southern Bastards #4 Yeah, that would have to be mine too, so good! As for other new series, my favourites were Ms. Marvel, Starlight, Copperhead, Birthright, Cyclops(the Rucka run)and She-Hulk.I'm probably forgetting some books, but i can only think of those ones right now.

I would put Moonknight #3 #4 and #5 right up there for my favourite single issues this year. Ms Marvel #1, Manifest Destiny #1, Sabrina, Translucid and the Woods would all be up there as well.

Best Publisher - Image
Best Web Comic/Digital Comic - Sensation Comics
Best Graphic Novel/One-Shot/Single Issue : Southern Bastards #4
Best Mini-Series : Translucid
Best Story Arc : Thor: God of Thunder - The Last Days of Midgard
Best New Series : Deadly Class
My one stickler is for a series to be able to run for Best New Series it should at least have 3 or 4 issues released to qualify. Giving that distinction to a ongoing title with only 1 or 2 issues is a little premature.

Oh, geez...this year has had such good books!
Sex Criminals! She-Hulk! Ms. Marvel! Lumberjanes! Moon Knight! Coffin Hill! Wytches (yes, two issues in, and it's one of the best horror comics I've read, in that I don't actually want to read it before I go to bed)! the Batgirl re-reboot! Gotham Academy! Multiversity (which has already given me Captain Carrot, let alone Pax Americana, which is its own whole, separate love-rant topic)! The continued awesomeness of books like Daredevil and Saga! The return of the Unwritten!
So much amazingness. I'll have to give category winners later, but what a year...

A few questions: What's the cut-off for New Series (ie. when the #1 was released)? Why combine One-Shot/OGN with Single Issue? Single Issue seems like its own category, no? What about possibly adding Best Artist, and Best Writer, in addition to the Breakthrough versions of each of those categories. Is Best Arc essentially replacing what would be a Best Ongoing category?
In any case, this'll require some rumination. Best Publisher is super easy (Image), but the rest . . not so super easy.

Single issues the only ones I can think at the top of my head are: Edge of Spider-Verse #2, Ms. Marvel #1, Sex Criminals #6 and either Saga #20 or #24.
Series wise: Superior Foes of Spider-Man, Saga, Sex Criminals, Batman, Ms. Marvel and The Multiversity.
But yeah, I have a lot of books in my head for these...I need time to think for a concrete list. And publisher is between Marvel and Image.
