As I was writing my piece on Dynamite's new Captain Victory miniseries (talkingcomicbooks.com/2014/10/24/bundles-arcs-kirbys-victory/) I came to a sort of a realization. Kirby's influence is EVERYWHERE. Darkseid and Apokolypse are THE villains of cosmic DC. The New Gods are showing up again in Green Lantern. MARVEL, of course, is existentially beholden to Jack, but his pantheonic creation The Inhumans are making a play to become the mutants of 2020. So, I found myself wondering:
Could it be that the difference between Marvel and DC, all along, has been that Marvel benefitted from the mythological gravitas of Kirby’s creations right from the beginning, while DC had to wait until the ’70s — and then took years before realizing what they had?
What do you think?

Gary Gary, I think you make a pretty good case! While there have been a passel of amazing creators in comic books since the Thirties, it's beyond safe to say that without Jack Kirby, first with his partner Joe Simon, then in his long collaboration with Stan Lee before moving to DC, the comics landscape would be very different, and perhaps even non-existent at this point if he and Stan hadn't re-vitalized it in the Sixties!
