In 4 years, I have never been to a FCBD nor picked up a free title. What exactly can I get for free?

Last years Free Comic Book Day was the best one for me. It landed on Star Wars Day so I woke up extra early went to my LCS and picked up the free books (also bought a Thor omnibus) I always buy something from my shop on FCBD because they don't make any money off the free books, thats my way of saying thanks for participating in such a great event. After that I spent the next 4 hours at the tattoo shop getting my Boba Fett tattoo done. Best day ever!

For me it's all about grabbing the deliciously old skool looking Transformers/GI Joe crossover. Ordered it online for 99p to avoid disappointment!

In 4 years, I have never been to a FCBD nor picked up a free title. What exactly can I get for free? Usually FCBD works as a way for publishers to either debut new titles, begin events or tease upcoming series by giving you a taste of what's to come. DC and Marvel usually do a good job by giving people preludes to their upcoming events or introducing audiences to series they may not be reading (this year is GotG I believe). Other publishers like Dark Horse pair up books to give you two small one-off stories of series they are writing (Star Wars/Avatar, Serenity/Buffy) or give you a zero issue for a series debuting in the near future. Sometimes all you get is a sampler, sometimes its an activity book or sometimes its a full Archie Double Digest for free. It really all depends year to year but you can check out this years offering on their website ( here). Also stores tend to do special deals for people who come get in line early (first 10 people at my store got 70% off whatever they wanted) or they have cosplayers show up and/or a costume contest. Get in touch with your LCS and they'll usually let you know if they have anything planned. Also most stores offer other discounts of some sort. There's something for everyone with FCBD. The only problem usually is LONG lines.

Personally I'm really looking forward to both Marvel and DC's free offerings as well as the 2000 AD special and the Armor Hunters prequel from Valiant.

I love FCBD. I always find a couple titles worth reading. I'm pumped to pick up the GoTG stuff, since I just not got into the series. That Rocket Raccoon solo issue is gonna be awesome!

My shop has 50% off back issues and 25% every thing else (except current stock), so I buy a lot of back issues and buy a GN or 2.
