As the Talking Comics crew have now answered my forum question, let's open it up to everyone else.
Mine are:
3. I am a complete story/narrative addict and comics provide a way to digest so many different stories in a short space of time 2. Being involved in a community of like minded people, even if that is just listening to the pod cast every week to hear others talking passionately and intellectually about what I also love 1. When I pick up a comic and dive in, the world melts away. All the stress and madness that swirls around us each day (just watch the news to see what I mean) does not matter as the only thing that's important for those few moments is the story between those pages. It's that wonderful conversation you have with the writer and artist, it's personal and almost always life affirming.

1) I like to read but have a really short attention span. I also get very sleepy when I read so the pictures and their respective colors bring me back in to the story
2) It reminds me being a child. My buddies and I would read, discuss, argue and revel in the sotrie that we read. This brings me back to that feeling a little
3) I love the art. I love that there are so many talented artists that are so good at putting such emotion on paper and there seems to be an endless suply of it.

When I first started reading Comics this whole world was so fascinating because:
1. it's limitless. You can tell stories with no boundaries, just the imagination. You can visit all this awesome places
2. Because Comics are so much fun. I love lighthearted books that make my day. I love to enjoy life and my time, so I really much enjoy reading intelligent books, that make me laugh.
3. Comicbooks make you think about stuff. I have read a few books, like I Kill Giants, that changed my way of thinking. These books you will not find and the major publishers...but in France and Europe there a quiet some brilliant stuff. Because people here think of comics in two ways: you have those funny Mickey Mouse comics and that stuff for kids AND you have serious writers, that try to bring comic books to the same level as novels. That whole superhero thing is not that big here. People take comics very serious like the indiebook culture in America.
I have no idea if all those great books from here make it over the big ocean, but especially the french stuff, you should definitely check out!

I love European comics, particularly the French stuff, with Moebius being a highlight. When I was kid Heavy Metal was so exciting to read as being a teenage boy it seemed like there was no censorship in those comics, interesting ideas and unexpected endings, nothing like Disney that's for sure!!

1. Worlds with no limitations. Genres, writing styles, market and production considerations...all these and more can limit the worlds, certainly, but at the core is unfettered imagination birthing fresh, new worlds for contemplation. Kaiju, westerns, science fiction, super-heroes...have we even scratched the surface yet?
2. Facets and nuances of story-telling. As I pencil more and more sequential art, this has become half science and half art for me, and I find everything about fascinating from panel layout to speech balloon placement.
3. So much art. So much. From writing to flatting to coloring to penciling to inking. There's so much to learn by and love and aspire to.

1) As it has been said on this posting it is the lack of limitations that attract me to the the genra of comics. No one would blink an eye when Batman finds himself in space and fighting monsters from another dimension, but the readers of Zarathustra's journey might have a hard time dealing with aliens while he shouts that God is dead. 2) The art. Lee, McFarland, (and god help me) Leifield with a plethora of others, got me into comics in the late eighties and early ninties. I didn't know who wrote Ronin and I didn't care that he wrote Daredevil before that. I cared about the art. Now I look for more "mature" stories but I still drool over good art.It is always nice when it comes with a wicked story. 3) Ritual. In the town I grew up in southern Ontario the nearest comic store was in Brantford. It might as well have been the moon for young X-men crazed me. But there was a small flee market that opened every Sunday. In that flee market there was a small comic stall that had about ten long boxes. I went there every Sunday with my paper delivery money and bought at least three comics. Then I went home and read them. It was great. Even now that I am near 40 I read all my comics on Sunday. I buy Omnibuses and read one issue a week, only on Sunday. It is calming and peacefull and I love every minute of it.

1) No limits. Comics have no budgetary limits, no creative limits. A brain-melting space epic costs just as much to make as an intimate love story. They are bound by nothing but the imaginations of the creators, and there are some pretty great creators out there.
2) The ongoing mythology. This tests the creators to always BE CREATIVE. It's always been fascinating to me that with all the history that some of these characters have, people are always finding new ways to reinvent that wheel.
3) The last page reveal/cliffhanger. How fun is that thing? Even though they sometimes -- okay, MOST times -- lead nowhere in the next issue, I always find it interesting when the creators can leave you wanting more.

1- As everyone else is saying, the lack of limitations. The freedom of comics, as a story-telling device, is remarkable and unique. 2- Comics are joyful, hopeful and full of inspiration and aspiration, at least to me. For me, comics are therapeutic and soothing to the soul. 3- The sense of community. I may not know who you are, but you like captain marvel! Carol Corps!!!!
