Missfits Talk MisfitsThe Everything Gets Derailed Show GET IT? Missfits talk about Misfits? I know, we’re hilarious. But yes, this week’s podcast is all about the E4/BBC (if you’re in North America) series, The Misfits. Mara steps out and is replaced by a very talkative cat while Stephanie and Melissa are joined by 50% of the Talking Comics news team, Courtney Key and Missfits fan extraordinaire, Angela Fowler. Spoilers: the ladies get super derailed throughout the show. Like a lot. But hopefully in a super endearing kind of way? Maybe? Hopefully? We like to think so. Before we talk Misfits and answer a few listener questions though, the first half of the show introduces our new guest Missfits and there is much discussion about TV and the fall shows that we’re excited for… and other stuff because DERAILED. Of course there’s also the good old recommendations section and the things the ladies are digging this week are: Bob’s Burgers, Manfeels Park, The Wicked + The Divine, Child of Light, Lucifer, Only Lovers Left Alive, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Velvet. The Missfits are: Stephanie Cooke – hellocookieMara Wood – megamaramonMelissa Megan – lissapunchThe Missfits on Twitter – @the_Missfits AND our email is podcast@the-missfits.com

MANY SERIES SPOILERS Edit: When I look at the forum, I somehow made a spoiler link? I have no clue how I did that . . . I might be remembering wrong or just blacked out for part of the podcast but I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Alisha as a favourite character or her awesome character journey. Although she does initially horribly abuse her powers (yes, she absolutely raped people. It was awful and should have had more than an episode worth of backlash), she quickly starts to suffer from them and her sudden inability to have an equal physical relationship. It isn't until she meets Future - spoiler - that she is able to have a relationship, both physically and emotionally equal. Future - spoiler - is basically fridged to implement her character growth which is a turn around on the trope of killing women to further men's journeys. And then she herself is horribly, transparently fridged and it was awful. Also, there is a lot to be said about how poorly her sexuality is handled and perhaps her transition from abusing her powers to fearing them could have been handled better. I would argue that she starts to change BEFORE she begins her primary relationship but it is debatable.
Unfortunately she is one of those characters of great potential who I feel was mistreated by the writers.
All that said, my first favourite was Kelly and I loved her friendship with Nathan. Male/Female friendships between teenagers are so rarely portrayed and their banter is just awesome.
Love your work, as always!

Another good episode, and a really organized one! I think this may have been the first podcast i've heard that talked about Misfits, most of them only talk about Game of Thrones or the Walking Dead, so i thought that was awesome. Im a big fan of this show, i just finished watching all five seasons(thanks Netflix!).Before i listened to this episode i kind of hoped there would be more talk about the later seasons because i think there's some good stuff in there, but i understand why you didn't, the first two seasons were the best, and not all of you had seen all of it. My favourite at first was Nathan but later it becomes Rudy, who is definitely more than the replacement of Nathan, in my opinion. Keep up the good work!

As a brit I am ashamed to admit that when this was on I kept checking it out for like an odd episode here and there and it never stuck.
But your podcast made me smile so much, you guys are infectious and there was some genuine warmth and clear enjoyment...some of it was even related to Misfits! but damn it was clearly huge fun to record, you could just tell how much you guys were enjoying yourselves and I found myself driving along with a stupid grin on my chops - Fantastic stuff.

So glad you enjoyed it! It was my first time on the show and it was really fun to record. I'm happy that came across in the podcast! goodeeveening, you've made some great points about Alisha. I know we did touch on her character a bit but I think we got sidetracked by Nathan's cheeky grin, ha ha. I agree that the friendship between him and Kelly was nice to see and is too rarely portrayed on television. IncredibleD, I sense you might not be completely honest when talking about how organized the podcast was...

I enjoyed recording this so much!
I think I meant to talk about Alisha more, but her character development is so entwined with plot stuff that I didn't want to spoil, but she's part of my absolute favorite plotline of Misfits. She goes on this incredible journey, learning responsibility and how to treat people (including herself) with humanity and love.
I think Curtis is the character I'm most disappointed in. I haven't watched after season 3, and I know he stays on, but through seasons 2-3 he doesn't really have a lot of character growth. Really, not a lot of character growth after the Curtis-centric episode in season 1.
