A busier week again:
Mighty Avengers #14
Really good end to this arc. Luke Cage gets a great hero moment too. Looking forward to seeing this reappear in the new series.
Cimarronin: a Samurai in New Spain #1
A Foreworld/Mongloiad based comic series. A Samurai, who seems to have unusually well developed powers of deduction, winds up on a galleon to Mexico with a Jesuit priest. This book has several authors who clearly know the historical period very well. The art is excellent too - I'll certainly be getting the next issue.
New Avengers #24
This issue is pretty good, with plenty of both plot and character. My problem with it, though, is one of structure. This story has been meandering along for the best part of two years with (to be generous) very slow plot development. Then suddenly 8 months' worth of genuine plot happens off screen... I don't really care if this is part of an event, it's really bad pacing.
Bodies #3
Building up nicely. I feel that I have an investment in three of the four time periods here and it looks like the fourth will tie everything together. Also, DS Shahara Hasan is a great character and I'd quite happily read an ongoing series about her.
Guardians of the Galaxy #19
More adventures in the Cancerverse. Not bad, and if it results in Richard Rider coming back I'll be a happy man.
Loki: Agent of Asgard #6
Loki v. Doom in a battle of wits and meta-narrative. I'll have some of that, thanks.
Saga #23
Nearly 2 years in and still as great as ever.
Rachel Rising #28
Rachel and Zoe find out a little more about what's going on. Terry Moore is still telling a great story.
Red Sonja #12
The end of the transcendent artisans story arc. Gail Simone is consistently writing the best Sonja I can remember reading in comics.
Secret Avengers #8
A MODOK heavy issue. Is that a bad thing? No. No it's not.
The 6th Gun #43
The series where I first started to love Cullen Bunn's writing. A must read for anyone who loves a supernatural Western with a great ensemble cast. Also, the King of Secrets is a seriously creepy character design.
