I didn't know whether to post this in an already existing thread or start a new one, so mods, if I've done wrong feel free to lock this mutha up The Artist Becky Cloonan is doing a signing at my LCBS and I'm wanting to go but need to know a couple of things first, as I've never been to an individual artist doing a signing before. To give a bit of background of why I'm needing to know, the long and short of it is I suffer with depression, which has currently gotten that bad, that I can't build up the courage to leave the house if my other half isn't with me (this means I'm missing out on FCBD tomorrow which is a pain in the ass as I won't be able to get a couple of books I wanted to pick up, but that's a whole other story), now the signing is on the 18th and I realistically have to get myself better by the 19th as I'm starting a new job on that date. But because I'm on sick leave from my current job I'm getting paid a lot less than I usually do and cash is quite tight this month. Basically I've set myself a target of going to the signing on my own as something to build up to. The basic things I wanted to know is what is the norm for signings? Travelling Man (The store she's signing in), have announced that there is an exclusive print that she is signing in their store only and I kinda want one, but I'd expect I'd have to pay for that right? If so how much would I expect to be paying? Also Am I expected to take one of her books with me to get signed as I'd have to buy one of those as well as all the Cloonan stuff I've seen is on the comixology app and I don't really fancy getting my Kindle signed! The reason I'm asking is I don't want to build myself up to go along to the signing, get there and realise I can't afford to get owt signed and run the risk of it knocking me down again, so if I know before hand I can make plans for an alternative target for somewhere to go to help me get better. Thaaaaaaaanks!!!

Thaaaaaaaanks!!! Hey Chris, First off, good luck on your up-coming new job, and even more, ahead-of-time congratulations on getting to see one of your favorite creators--I know that you'll make it there in fine form! As to what to expect, in general, a print could set you back 20 US dollars (I'm told that's about 12 pounds), and in terms of bringing vs. buying books, it's not a hard-and-fast thing either way, but more along the lines of "house rules". Some stores may require a purchase, and then allow your "carry-ins" to be signed, others might be fine with any-and-all. Your best bet is to call the store in advance, explaining that you've bought Ms. Cloonan's work electronically, and ask for the price of a print and if they will put one on reserve for you! While you're at it, they might have a particular book that she is promoting in large enough quantities that they'll put that aside, too! Best of luck, and please let us know how your afternoon turns out!

Hey Bob, Firstly thank you for your reply to this thread, it really did help put me at ease, as I had no idea what to expect and had visions of me making an idiot of myself! I've just got back home from going and it couldn't have gone better, helped a lot by the fact that the guys at my local store know me quite well and as this was the first time I'd visited since the middle of last month they took the time to have a chat with me and assure me that my pull-list is still being saved for me until I get paid at the end of the month. For the signing itself, it turned out to be a nice surprise, Becky was really pleasant and happily signed a copy of her new book for me (I'd picked up a cheap paperback copy of East Coast Rising to take in as well, but didn't bother with it when I got there as she'd mentioned jetlag on her twitter page after flying overnight from California!), and it turned out that the signed prints were free with her new book anyway! The nicer surprise was that it wasn't only her signing, Richard Starkings who is involved in Elephantmen was signing as well, now I'm sure someone recommended Elephantmen to me (it may be our very own HelloCookie who did), and he was signing copies of the latest Graphic Novels, so I picked one up and without my asking he even put a personalised sketch in with his signature, which really made my afternoon! Now we've got the first day at my new work tomorrow and I can't wait, I think the manager of our comics store put it spot on right - "you've had your down time, now it's time to come back up again". So all in all I'm really glad I went, for the first time in over a month I've got a fair bit of confidence in myself again, and this definitely helped!
