This book had a much darker tone than I thought it would, but it felt pretty natural. The art was top notch and really captured the martial arts action. I'm really hoping enough people pick this series up to keep it going. I would highly recommend this series to anyone, it is extremely new reader friendly.

Most the negative reviews I've read have all been extremely unfounded.

Hm...I agree about the darker tone and also agree it was pretty natural. However, I'm not a big fan of the art. It's not a deal breaker for me in this instance but as more and more comics, mainly Marvel it seems, adopt this sort of, for lack of a better term, unrealistic style it has caused me to realize just how much I enjoy nice 'realistic', detailed artwork instead of the washed out, blobs in some of these books(I'm looking at you Black Widow). I am very curious to see where this book is going to take us. Especially since Kaare Kyle Andrews is doing the writing and all of the art aspects - penciler, inker, colorist. - Beau

i think Andrews is magnificent with how he laying out these panels. Obvious Sterkano influence.
I think it's a must-read simply for the visuals alone.

Yep I absolutely loved this. But Iron Fist anything is good enough for me.
Speaking of Kaare Andrews art, has anyone here read Wolverine #32?
When Living Weapon was announced I looked into him and picked up a couple books and this is just a single story issue and it is amazing. I picked up a black and white edition, not sure if its in colour too but I recommend the black and white one because it just feels right for the book. And its about Wolverine being in a WWII Nazi camp and the man Nazi in charge keeps trying to kill him and it drives him insane. Really dark stuff, but Wolverine is completely silent the whole issue. Worth a look if you can track it down.

I'm definitely on board, I finally had a chance to read my copy and it is fantastic! This book seriously surprised me, so serious and dark.

A lot of people have been complaining that Iron Fist isn't a jokester and crap, as if the character can only be one dimensional.

I can understand why people that are used to a different version of the character wouldn't like this take. I'm kind of surprised it flew with me, since I'm usually annoyed by the "grim and gritty."

I think this tone was slightly off-putting for my idea of the character, but I'm interested to see where it will go.

Has anyone read or heard any interviews with Kaare Andrews regarding this book? There's a good interview on the wordballoon podcast, and the Pop Culture Hound w/ Chris Thompson.
I loved this first issue and love Iron Fist asa character, but hearing Kaare go into the history of the character and his reasoninings behind the tone and where he's going make a lot more sense and make me really excited for the future of the book.
And the darker tone of it feels like a bit of a relief. Because if it was bright and chirpy like Danny Rand in Defenders, this book would just become another Hawkeye. Which may not sound like a bad thing, but Hawkeye is Hawkeye because its Hawkeye. Iron Fist is another blonde street based superhero, you wouldn't want it being too similar in tone.
And if anybody has picked up or read that first for issues (its only collected in those expensive Masterworks hardcovers otherwise try the black and white Essesntial paperbacks) the tone is very similar if not the same as this new series.

I heard that Word Balloon interview with Andrews before I read the issue and I think it got me more pumped up for it and maybe added to my enjoyment when I read it. His approach to making comics - with writing, penciling, inking, coloring, etc as part of one continuous comic-creation process - is interesting to me.
