Hello,
I've been listening to the podcast since episode 10! Not a lot of people around here to nerd out with and talk comics so when i found the podcast/site its was as if i'd found the Holy Grail!
Name: Luke Where I'm From: Sunset, Utah, USA, (Near Salt Lake City and all that Sundance Stuff) Comics Origin Story: I began mostly reading some spider man and batman issues that my mom would get me at the grocery store but as i grew up and started watching x-men they became my favorite but as we know jumping into the x-men in the mid 90's was a little tricky so i guess the first comics i bought on my own were was Daredevil during the Bendis/Smith era and Thor. What I'm Reading: Daredevil, Thor: God of Thunder, Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men, Capt. Marvel, Avengers Assemble, Green Lantern, Justice League, Avengers and New Avengers. Prized Geek Possession: X-Men Giant Size #1 first printing.

Luke,
Welcome to the Forums!
As I type, it's snowing cats-and-dogs (moose-and-penguins?) around here; I'm sure not like you guys get, but a foot of snow is pretty bad for Long Island! It may be weird, but we're going to try some electronic wizardy to get you a podcast tomorrow!
We're hearing a lot of love for the X-Men animated (Batman:TAS, too!) as the new readers' 90s entry point! I keep saying, they need to a better job linking the movies/TV stuff to the books!
Have fun! Bob ps) Congrats on that Giant Size #1--that's one of my favorites, too!

Luke,
That is a great piece! I'm a big fan of Alex Ross' work, in fact, a print of his recreation of the Fantastic Four #1 cover hangs in my living room! I'm thrilled that he'll be doing a cover for the new #1 issue, but a bit miffed that it's a very sparsely distributed variant with a big price tag! I guess I'll be buying the trade!

Hi! I've been listening to the podcast for a few weeks now (starting with the 2013 "best of" ones) and am really enjoying it. I've been checking out a lot of different comics podcasts lately and TC is my favorite so far. I really like the rapport the hosts have and it sounds like our tastes are similar. I also like how even though the podcasts are long, you guys are really good at keeping things moving along at a good clip. Also, the high production values are appreciated, since sometimes I'm listening under adverse conditions (like when driving, or when running at the gym) and I can always hear everyone real well.
Name: Flasshe Where I'm From: Denver, CO, USA
How I Got Into Comics: It was probably because of the 60s Batman TV show (dating myself here), though I was very young at the time. Been reading and collecting on and off since then. I actually sold off the bulk of my huge collection five years ago or so, though I kept a lot of the valuable or meaningful ones. These days, I'm pretty much digital only (yeah, Comixology! yeah, iPad!). Really, it's the only way I can read (or "collect") these days, since I don't want the huge stacks of paper to take over my life and my house again. It was really the Geoff Johns Green Lantern (and related) run that got me back into comics over the last few years.
What I'm Reading: I'm pretty much a year or two behind on everything, but I'm more or less current on Saga, Sex Criminals, Walking Dead, Sex, Morning Glories, and the Green Lantern books. I've read all but the last 3 Locke & Key's (Omega 5, Alpha 1 & 2) and am re-reading Omega to prepare me for the End. I'm working my way through The Boys. I usually don't buy until the digital price reductions kick in a month or so after the books come out (2 months for DC these days). I also like to read complete story arcs since I have a hard time remembering details month-to-month, so I'll usually wait and purchase/read a bunch of issues at a time (or a collection). I come from a superhero-centric background but I really love what Image (and others) are doing in the non-SH realm these days and all that has me pretty fired up. Which is why I listen to the podcast, to get good recommendations and to nod my head in silent agreement. Marvel-wise, I've read the first few of the Hawkeye run and really love it, looking forward to the rest of those. Also looking forward to Captain Marvel, Daredevil, etc. Been going through the old Runaways stuff lately. DC-wise, I'm just trying to eventually get current with the New 52, esp the Batman family (and GL, like I said). I've always been a huge Justice League fan, but am pretty behind on that, having only read the first New 52 arc.
Prized geek possession: Too numerous to mention, and I don't want to sound like I'm lying or bragging. Even though I've been a DC fanboy most of my life, I have a LOT of Important Marvel books that I keep in a safe deposit box. The Byrne X-Men, the Shooter/Perez Avengers, the Miller Daredevil, all really got me into Marvel back in the day when I was DC-only, and also prompted me to collect and indulge in the earlier Marvel stuff (mostly 60s Avengers). I've got a Cerebus #1 (non-counterfeit) signed by Dave Sim.
Sorry for the huge info dump! I'll try to be more succinct next time. Looking forward to hob-nobbing with everyone.

Flasshe!
Welcome to the Talking Comics Forums!
Starting with our "Best of 2013" debate episodes is a heck of a beginning! Thankfully, this year's were much sunnier than last time around!
I should ask for "collection purging" advice, as I've come to that precipice before, and I just couldn't make the leap! As folks who've come to visit know, I have an entire room basically filled with boxes of comics that I could have replaced with archive editions that I could actually open and read without fear! That said, as you know, it is pretty cool to open a box and see it filled with 50-year-old Marvels!
Have fun!

Hi Bob, thanks for the welcome! I feel we have a lot in common.
I enjoyed the debates, especially since I feel you all at least have respect for each others' opinions.
Not sure how much purging advice I can offer. It really just depends on what has meaning to you personally, and what you feel you would continually revisit. Like you say, if you just want to re-read something, an archive edition or trade works just as well or better. There is something about seeing and handling those originals though! (And what is it about comics that makes them so re-readable? I know I'm much more likely to re-read a comic than a book I enjoyed. Maybe it's the length...)
One piece of advice is that if you do it as one large purge like I did (sold to one collector), make sure you know what you have and what you're giving away. I accidentally had my Bernie Wrightson Swamp Things listed among the purges. The guy who bought the collection sure got a good deal on that. I'm sure there's others I missed as well...
Also forgot to mention above that I am also a fan of The Movement, though I'm several issues behind at this point. I found myself forgetting too much when I was reading month-to-month, so I've been letting them (digitally) pile up for a little while. I need to start over at the beginning and catch up.

Flasshe,
I've done some mini-purges over the years, generally driven by distaste for something happening in contemporary books, such as when I sold off all my old Spideys after the "clone" reveal! Sadly, the stuff I could part with without a thought is from the last ten years, which except for a few oddities, no one wants! As to the boxes of Sixties/Seventies stuff, I amassed those over the course of many years during my childhood, followed by fill-ins during the late Seventies and early Eighties, but they are somehow all "my books", and I'm attached to them beyond their monetary value!
I fear that The Movement may not have too much longer to live, but I'm going to enjoy every minute of the run! Glad You're one of the 6,ooo!

Flasshe, Another person from Denver! i can't tell you how much the time change from here to New York messes me up when i'm posting my reviews. :-P Where do you pick up your books? I'm currently on this ridiculous goose chase every Wednesday to find all of the books i want, and sometimes i have to hit three or four different shops. anyway, just wanted to say hi. we should make sure that we rub our sunny, warm weather in the faces of all these new yorkers. :-)

Back when I was buying print comics, I got them from All In A Dream on E. Colfax. Ray knows his stuff. As for the weather, a look out the window tonight shows white stuff coming down...
