Hey all, In the recent podcasts I have noticed a lot of good books (mostly the ones Bob reads) getting canceled. After that it is very unlikely (at least I assume) that a trade will get made and even more unlikely it will ever reach the mass market. The below digram is what I think the general path is to from a single issues of a comic book to a mass market movie. I know there are a lot of times where this is not the case, but this seems like the general rule on what happens. Here are my questions: If your local comic is going on the decline and more and more people go digital instead of buying single issues do trades start disappearing? If trades go away do the more casual readers that pick up trades at the book store or amazon start to go away? Can a comic that is only published digitally eventually becomes a cartoon, TV Show or Movie? Or does the digital comic only exist for the most part because it is a copy of the single issue that was already made? Attachments:

Ok I'll try to ancer the best I can.
1) when a book gets canceled is does not effect the trade print. Only if it's a very short run ( 3-5 issues or without a story arc ) You'll find most out of print comics in trades at some time.
2) I don't know if print will ever disappear ( in comic book form) The BIG publishers I think will always have a print. The new guys ( independent) can run on digital because cost is way less. And they can get a foot in the door.
3) IF trades DO go away ( i doubt ) then yes casual readers won't get access. Unless it's digital ..
4) yes ( anything on print can be made )
5)No, there are people releasing comics via digital only. Some if do well, release a trade book . ( Bendette )

First thank you so much for replying. I have itching to have this conversation.
So I agree with all of your answers and didn't know that if a story arc is finished it pretty much means a trade will happen no matter how well the single issues did.
Here is where I get confused.
If the singles get canceled, but make enough to make a trade that ends up doing well does it mean they will start the series back up?
If so it is kind of like when something gets canceled off FOX and then does really well either on another station of in DVD sales, but that is very rare.
Is it more common to happen in comics this way?

I think fan's voice has a lot of power. If a trade of a canceled title does well or there's high fan demand and following then a reboot might happen. It's a tough question that's "on the fence" so to speak.
