This is inspired by the podcast the guys did some time ago regarding things to being thankful for in comics. Because is it just me or is everybody sick of all the negativity? I'm tired of having to defend myself and the things I read and enjoy to people who simply have a different taste. Something I've always said is never say something IS terrible. Just say you don't like it. Because by telling somebody something is terrible, you are insulting them of their tastes and basically saying they have none. Whereas saying you don't like something and giving your reasons why allows for discussion. Not to open up a massive can of worms but I am sick and tired of defending myself with regards to Man of Steel. I understand why people don't like it. Its not for them. But hearing people, all the way from fans to comic creators saying "Its AWFUL and WRONG and is against everything Superman stands for" is just wrong. Plain and simple. No single person has ownership of what something should be. These characters are owned by everybody, and everybody enjoys a particular version. Then there is the whole other area of the comic book industry. Honeslty the fact that Dan Didio is a douche does not in any way stop me from having 90% DC titles in my pull list. Many of my favourite writers in comics share different personal beliefs to me, doesn't stop them from being my favourite writers of all time. The fact that Brian Wood may or may not have done something questionable does not stop me from loving DMZ and buying Star Wars. I read for the stories and characters and they bring me endless amounts of joy.
So this is where we share what makes us happy in comics. What has made us happy recently, in the past, what we're looking forward to. None of this "Marvel vs DC" or "Independent vs Big 2" rubbish. No disappointment with a movie, comic or otherwise.
And those sharing negative feelings. Just relax. Look at a kitten, eat an ice cream and then tie yourself to a frisbee and fling yourself over a rainbow.

Excellent thread.
I too am so tired of all the negativity surrounding not just comics but other things around this hobby ( ever see a fan boy video game war? Ugh). I want people to stop being so negative and frankly annoying and celebrate the amazing things we have. So for me, this is what I'm thankful for right now.
The wake The fact were gonna see a freaking GOTG movie Sex criminals. Captain marvel And NEW CONSOLES.

For me personally, I'm thankful for Jason Aarons Thor, Image being Image and constantly putting out amazing content, a whole new console war, I think the competition between companies is good, it keeps them on top of their game which gives us better machines and games! Saga remaining my favorite title and last but not least Disney buying Lucas Film and making new Star Wars movies. I know a lot of people freaked out and thought the worst but Disney also owns Marvel and look how great the comic book movies are that we're getting. Also Boba Fett movie = take all my money.

Well said everyone! I'm thankful for many things, but am especially thankful for Ms. Marvel and hope it is a harbinger for more diversity, of all kinds, in comic books. I'm also thankful for the Hellboy universe because I've recently gotten into it, and there is so much amazing stuff to read!

I really try to stay positive if I can help it when it comes to this industry. Sure some things frustrate me, but creatively this is one of the best times to be reading comics. There is so much good out there right now, I don't see the point in dwelling in the negative.

I am a pretty reactive person. I used to ALWAYS share my opinion whether it was negative or positive. I've recently changed and now I only share my opinions if they are positive. If I have a negative opinion I just say "I don't understand this... or I don't like this" instead of saying "That is shit. That is terrible" I had a class recently where we talked about negative speech and how people perceive any opinion that is represented as a fact as an argumentative statement. Simply stating "I, personally don't think" makes a statement sound more of opinion. I am thankful for: Finally reading Captain Marvel Snyder writing Batman Ms. Marvel and what that team is doing for the genre Image Comics and as joroak stated- the FREAKIN GOTG MOVIE!!

I am thankful for Waid/Samnee remaining as the team in the next Daredevil volume. I am grateful the punisher has started again and looks like it will be a strong story. I am thankful there are several new non big 2 titles that I want to give a shot, and am bound to stick with at LEAST more than one of them.

There's a whole lot to be thankful for in comics i think. Publishers like Image that have got some great creator owned books and that keep on making them, a lot of the new Marvel stuff which is really great, Dark Horse and its Mignolaverse which has kept me really busy for the last few weeks and all the super hero movies and tv shows that we have or are gonna get.
Oh and Batman of course

Reading. Seriously, it sounds silly but any medium that promotes reading and exercising imagination in our culture is staggeringly important. Not just the creative side of comics, though there is plenty to appreciate in that respect. Illustrations in reading, in my opinion, can help bridge the gap between reading as a young person and as an adult. Comic books, and similar mediums, can act as a stepping stone to forming a healthy reading habit later in life.
Reading...specifically understanding the world, and acquiring knowledge through print based media, grounded in verifiable facts (as opposed to opinion makers, and talking heads on tv which has become part of our collective cultural drift) is important. A society that does not base its truths in verifiable fact can not be sustained. That's why promoting reading from a young age is important. Form a habit out of reading as a youth so as an adult, individuals have the tools necessary to seek and form better opinions about our world and affect change.
So read, read, and read so more.

Great topic, and Oh god, I could name a huge list here. I'll try to be brief. The New 52, for making DC more accessible to DC Fans! Marvel Now and all it's prefixes, for making Marvel more accessible to Marvel Fans.
The Marvel Movie-verse for making superheroes cool, I mean we're getting Guardians of the Galaxy movie this year. Walking Dead, for being the most popular and greatest show on American Television.

I am a cynic and a skeptic, so staying positive is a challenge for me in every aspect of my many interests. Great idea for a thread & thanks for inspiring me to think about what I'm thankful for. Right now, it's Battleblock Theater, which I recently started playing thanks to Stephanie's glowing recommendation. I don't play games often these days, and it's been fun to remember how soothing a good platform game can be, even if things are 'sploding all over the place. I'm happy to have so many amazing series to read right now. Saga, Pretty Deadly, Lazarus, Monster & Madman, The Wake. Great tv to watch. Walking Dead, Game of Thrones (ok, soon), Hannibal, Bates Motel, Justified. And, of course my family.

This gave me chills. I dont know what I would do if there wasn't something to read. And I started reading because, of ALL things, buying Phantom comics after seeing the 1996 movie. And just this week I bought Count of Monte Cristo and am 1/4 of the way through it. A 1200 page book. If somebody told me I would not only read but enjoy a 1200 page book back then.... I'd probably cry and yell "STRANGER DANGER!"

I am grateful for the breadth of comics we currently have. I have grown rather tired of super hero comics and if not for the non big two companies I may have given up on the hobby by this point. Instead I have plenty to read and then can occasionally read a Marvel or DC books and get back into them gradually rather then having no other choice.

I'm grateful for Image Comics for branching out to so many talented creators and letting them follow their passion and tell their own stories. I'm grateful for the Walking Dead for making that possible at such a great introductory price. I am grateful for this wonderful community and for podcasts like Talking Comics. It's definitely a great time for comics and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.

I'm grateful to the Marvel movies, because without them I would have never been inspired to get into superhero comics, and from there back into comics in general. Like TealProductions said, the breadth of current comics is amazing and it's wonderful that I am limited in my reading by my budget and not by what is available, because there is so much I want to read.
And of course, I'm thankful to Talking Comics for putting on a great podcast that has helped me get more into the world of comics, and for providing this wonderful community.
