Help!
Can anyone tell me if the MCM London Expo (or whatever it is called now) is any good? My eldest has never been to a con and has a friend that is due to attend this one so he has asked to go. I was thinking of taking him to London Super in February as it's near his birthday but if this one is any good we could try it instead.
Any advice would be most welcome, as as I have a vague recollection of someone telling me it was a bit pants.
Thank in advance!

From what I have heard 2nd hand it is busy and has a huge amount of indy creators who do a fair bit of networking but it isn't a big draw for well known creators.
Again 2nd hand but I know one of the organizers from London Super and surprisingly he tells me it is amazing and I need to get my ass there next year!
I suspect it depends what he is into, main stream etc. after checking the website for MCM London unless I was fairly local I think I would pass but that's just for me.

I went to LSCC the first couple of years it was on, and personally thought it was very good, so I will second your friend on that one! Good mix of indies and big names, lots of space to chat to con-goers, creators, cosplayers. Eldest is in to Marvel so I'm thinking this might not be his best intro to a con. The lack of names / guests announced for MCM is my main worry, it's in about three weeks and they have no big name guests announced - seems a bit off to me; whereas LSCC already has Ryan Stegman and Ian Churchill named, and that isn't for another five months.

MCM is insanely busy, I think in terms of attendance it's only beaten by NYCC and SDCC. For a kid's first con it may well be a little too much to handle. Plus, as previously mentioned, LSCC is quieter and is a much better draw in terms of guests.

Ooh, thanks to Huw I just spotted that there is a Brighton Film & Comic Con coming in November, from Showmasters (who seem to put on Cons in every city known to man according to their website!), so we may check that one out as an intro instead. At least that gives me an extra couple of weeks ton make both the children the costumes that they apparently want...

They're definitely one of those companies who pretty much organise cons to make a shed load of money. I refuse to go to the one in Cardiff as they twice deliberately organised their show to clash with a small, local con and ended up killing it for a while. They also have a reputation for not being very nice to their guests!
