Did anyone pick up volume 2?
I'd forgotten how much I loved the first one, mainly because the Superman one has been more regular but disappointing. And I didn't like the Teen Titans one at all, so forking out $30 for a hardcover I might not like didn't sit well with me. But then my LCS talked me into getting it simply by saying "But Geoff Johns!"
So I sat down that night and read volume 1 through to volume 2. Wow. Good week for Batman. At first the new takes on characters was a bit jarring. Batman not being the Bat-God is always difficult. Seeing him make mistakes and still learning and things like that. But this book is clearly written by someone who loves Batman and understands him. The relationships are still there, especially with Jim Gordon. I love the little "digs" at things like the bat signal, the use of the bat symbol. Killer Croc has a much different role than I was expecting.
I absolutely loved the new take on Two-Face. So clever. To me it falls in line (in terms of clever ideas) with the Grant Morrison Arkham Asylum moment where they try getting Two-Face of the coin by giving him an 8 sided die and a deck of cards. It just makes you go "OF COURSE!!!! Why hasn't someone done this before!?"
But for me the ending was perfect. Had such a cinematic but-wait-theres-more ending with a specific character reveal. When they were introduced (without being named) I was curious and hopeful, then the story distracted me so when I got to that last page, I just had a big smile on my face.
My only critisism is that the wait for these books is way too long. I don't care about Earth One Superman or Teen Titans. It would be nice to finally get Wonder Woman. But Batman is amazing.
I'm curious when or if they will do the Joker. I kind of hope not, only from the perspective of that I know I will enjoy a new, fresh take on it especially from Johns, but it will no doubt get screams of hatred from readers which will overshadow the actual quality of the story.

Haha @lcs convincing you - sounds familiar, mine told me 'It's Batman... BATMAN!!!' and he knew I was on the hook.
I haven't even read Vol.1 yet so he convinced me to get them both much to the pain of my wallet and picking them up this w/end coming. Side-note I am so in awe of the comic shops I see people post about, my nearest is a long[ish] drive to a small village and its a tiny shop but he makes it work with great online deals and just making sure we all know he is there.
So Batman Earth One this w/end - looking forward to it.

As is always the way I rushed my LCS to get me both Vol.s and they sat there till this w/end.
I enjoyed the first vol. the artwork is excellent and it felt like a kind of Elseworlds Year One riff which coming from John's was great - ultimately it was satisfying but nothing mind-blowing. The second vol. I really loved, the Riddler of this Earth is cold and calculating but on a whole different level of evil from the N52 version, again the art is slick and consistent. I think one of my favorite parts is Alfred with the GCPD where you see how this version is the eternal fighter an angry old dog who is just too stubborn and defiant. The Two-Face introduction was really well done, I like the concept and can see how in this reality it would really work well and give even more tragedy to the Two Face character.
Having just picked these up I haven't experienced the waiting game but I will get the chance first hand now as vol.2 only just came out and I am already interested in what vol.3 will deal with.

I'm reading Vol 2 at the moment. I have really enjoyed the all the Earth One books that I have read so far. I'm a bit of a Superman fan so really enjoyed the Superman ones.

I just finished it and really enjoy the twists of the characters that die hard fans will understand.

Batman Earth One Vol 1 was by far my favorite take on Alfred, guess it was Gotham's writers too. Time for me to get Vol 2 as well, especially now that some used ones are out there for reasonable prices. Geoff Johns, has to be quality stuff.

One of the best things about these kind of books is the twists on the characters. If a movie or TV show change a character to much people get upset even though it's not canon with the books. I enjoy shows like Gotham because I don't know what they are going to do. Arkham Knight was a good game for fans with all the nods to the books but it was to pradictable. My favorite twist like this has to be in Flashpoint with the batman story.
