Has anyone else had their mind blown by this series, especially the art by Matteo Scalera and Dean White? The first issue in particular just blew me away with the bizarre setting, rich colors, and pulpy story.
I enjoyed the second issue, albeit not as much as the first mostly because the setting of the first issue really allowed the art to shine. Still, I'm excited to see where this series goes. As one of the core series concepts is the group jumping from dimension to dimension, we are sure to see many other strange, incredible worlds in this series. And I'm interested to see how Rick Remender uses Grant McKay's anarchism as a plot device.
What do you all think of the series so far and where do you think it'll go?

Loved it over here. I really enjoyed #2's setting as well as #1. Here's hoping it'll continue to be great. It was hard to find a copy of #1 in Cambridge. Eventually saw one hanging in a display 3 weeks after release. I had resigned myself to waiting for the trade.

Man the art in this book is crazy crazy beautiful. I really enjoyed the first two issues, but I'm holding off on this till trade. It feels like one of those series that would read better that way

I admire y'all's discipline in waiting for a trade!
During a recent sale on comixology, I got the first 5 issues of Remender's Dimension Z storyline with Captain America and can definitely see some parallels in terms of the far out setting, crazy creatures, and figuring out how to get home. Does anyone know if he's mentioned that storyline as an inspiration for Black Science?

The art for this book is spectacular. Remender seems to have a very grand and wide scope for this book. The story dipped a bit for me in issue #2, but it looks like things will pick up in #3. The first issue was maybe the best #1 I read in 2013, so great.

I'm loving the covers for this series and may have to frame that first issue. I love how the covers reference pulpy 50s sci-fi movies yet isn't too campy and gives you the sense of being in another dimension (the more I think about it, the more I have to think that Remender's work on Dimension Z inspired this series).

It definitely has my interest so far. WHO sabotaged the device?!?! My only complaint is the excessive cursing of Jesus' name every few panels, "JC this, JC that". I don't think you NEED to have cursing in your comic to drive the point home. That's just my two cents. sidenote: ever ask yourself why don't we curse Buddah, Vishnu or whatever other gods people believe in? WHY only Jesus? Hmm

by the great sock puppet snake god beholdent to Alan Moore, good point. Maybe it's something the gods are angry about over in Hickman and Costa's God is Dead, lol. I'd say they need to come with some snappier names to cash in more on the cursing stakes.

The first issue was maybe the best #1 I read in 2013, so great. Weird. I feel the opposite. Care to share why you didn't like issue 2 as much? I just thought it brought more dynamic personalities to the characters. They were all kind of muddled in the first issue, and I couldn't really even tell who was who. I think the "bad guys" from the first one were way more cool. I loved the frog guys. So awesome. I liked the war between the two time periods. It was awesome. The way this book is set up has so many possibilities. I can't wait to see where it goes. When does issue 3 come out? It's gotta be in the next two weeks right?

Not that it is a terrible thing, the characters were built up more, but I loved the chase in the 1st issue. The atmosphere surrounding the story was so tense for a #1. The 3rd issue comes out January 29th.

Fair enough. I can see where you're coming from for sure. Hopefully #3 draws you back in. .

Yeah, I'm very excited for issue 3 because I think it will help confirm the pace of this story regarding whether we are going to see a new world/dimension every issue, or if Rick Remender is going to have occasional arcs where we stay in the same world for a few issues. I'm hoping for a combination where we can some depth of these different locations, and then occasionally have an issue like the first where the story's at a breakneck pace.
And I wonder how long it will take to find out who sabotaged the teleporter device. It seems like there could be some rich material regarding Grant McKay having these strong beliefs about exploring science without rules, but still relying on corporate backers and how that will play out. Can't wait for issue #3!

True that, Fugazi. I hope they build a story around that period because of how cool they look. I also hope they do some Doctor Who esque history scenes. I think they would be cool one shots between story arcs. Like an issue where they stumble upon some twisted dimension where JFK doesn't get killed and ruins the world or something like that.
