Anybody else here seen Annabelle?
I went to see it with a mate on Saturday, feeling pretty hyped beforehand! We also saw The Conjuring at the cinema when that came out and enjoyed it. Annabelle serves as a sort of prequel to The Conjuring although only loosely connected. Dolls/dummies have been always been freaky to me (must have been because of Slappy from Goosebumps) so I had high hopes for a good movie, perfect to scare me!
And it was just...meh. I wouldn't say it was a bad movie, but it was just very average. There were some good creepy moments and some good scares. The cinema was pretty packed so I was determined not to jump and embarrass myself...sadly I did jump once, and it was the most stupid scare ever - curtains! For me though, the movie was just a bit too predictable, there was too much boring dialogue breaking up the tense scenes and there were far too many times when I just thought to myself "nope, no sorry but you just wouldn't do that."
It's a shame really because the film seemed to have the perfect ingredients to really scare me - creepy doll, baby crying/giggling, lingering slow zooming camera shots, misbehaving record players etc. but it just didn't live up to it's potential. I think being in the cinema helped with the tension building scenes as you could sense everybody in there was on edge - but if I were to watch this movie at home in my living room, it would not have anywhere near as much impact. It's an odd one since I wouldn't really recommend you spending money to see this film at the cinema, because it's not that good, but if you don't watch it at the cinema you'll probably dislike it even more.
The Conjuring was far from a brilliant movie but it was better than Annabelle.(Sorry creepy doll demon, please don't hurt me)
Has anybody else seen either of these movies?
