Troops,
I came across this fun fan-made trailer for what an "Avengers" movie might have looked like if shot in the early Fifties! The second version features "pop-up video" notes for who's who, so that you catch all the cameo appearances!
Enjoy:

Chris, Activity has certainly slowed, which is troubling. Some of our long-timers seem to have drifted away, although whether that's from a withdrawal from the hobby itself from whatever cause more than a dis-satisfaction with the Forum is unknown, as we never seem to have an "exit interview". I've posted a few things across some varied topics that once would have generated at least a comment or two if not an entire conversation, to no real response. Here's hoping for a stronger Summer!

I do always take a sneaky peak at the bottom to see who has been on in the last 24 hrs and yes it does seem to have dropped off, even the Guest posts are rare.
With all the good content on the main site perhaps at the bottom of articles there could be a link to the Forum as comments sections are OK but for a proper debate / discussion nothing like a good Forum'in!

Biggest reasons why I haven't been all that active recently have been work(started a new job recently)and the fact that I'm not reading as much as i used to.Sure, it also doesn't help that when I do check the forums lately there isn't a lot going on most of the time, but those are my two main reasons.
I do hope this is just a quieter period though, and that it eventually will become busier again, which has always happened in the past, but we'll see.

Simon, You're certainly right about this being the place for great discussions, and your suggestion about posting a link is a great one, so I'll pass it along to the Front Office!

Dave, No worries; I believe that many people have experienced some dis-satisfaction with the comics offerings of late, and have pared back their pull lists. (Congrats on the new job, by the way!) "Event Season" always brings up some...interesting discussions around here, so here's hoping for a busy Summer!

Bob, Did you happen to see/read Weird Detective #1 from Dark Horse? It had a Lovecraftian vibe, but didn't take itself too seriously. Any suggestions for comics that also fit that description?
Thanks for everything you all do for the comics community. I don't have a lot of friends who read comics, but listening to your discussions really give me some great things to think about and you all always have some wonderful recommendations!
Best, Josh

Best, Josh Josh, Sorry for the delay, but i wanted a chance to see what you were talking about, so I took a glance at Weird Detective, and it seemed to be exactly as you described! I'll probably wait for the trade, but thanks for putting it on my radar! As to other things in that vein (sorry!), the first thing that struck me was Fatale by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, and particularly the first volume, which was entitled "Death Chases Me". (Over at Amazon, you can actually preview some of the book!) Off the comics track, I would suggest checking out the long-ago HBO tele-film "Cast a Deadly Spell", which starred Fred Ward as private eye Harry Lovecraft. It's set in a 1948 Los Angeles where everyone uses magic of some sort, excepting our beleaguered hero, who is on the trail of a copy of the Necronomicon for occult collector Amos Hackshaw, played to a wicked "T" by David Warner. Here's a trailer:

I loved that they didn't feel the need to use heavy exposition to explain the world instead they just showed it to us. I was real impressed with the creatures, especially with it being a 90's TV movie. The little bits of humor throughout were a nice touch and I alway enjoy it when Julianne Moore makes an appearance in a movie. Thank you for the suggestions! Is the sequel worth a watch?

Josh, Sorry I'm late, but what with the holiday and prepping for our new show... Anyway, I'm glad that you dug "Cast a Deadly Spell"! it aces a difficult combination in that you still feel the dire consequences, even as it doesn't take itself so seriously as to ruin some very fun moments. As to the sequel "Witch Hunt", it's watchable, but for my money, after having Fred Ward so inhabit the character of Harry Lovecraft. Dennis Hopper comes off second best. (For a Hopper film with a Lovecraftian vibe, check out "Night Tide", directed by Curtis Harrington back in 1961.)

Friends, As we don't as of yet have a "Podcast Post", let me take this moment to say that our good friend Dr. Mara Wood did a fabulous job on her first episode as host (as did our guest-host Melissa Megan, by the way!), so let's all make her feel welcome in her new role!

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but i'm sure Doctor Mara will do a great job as the new host!
Was shocked last week though when i heard Bobby was leaving the show, never would've expected that!
