Have you guys seen the Marco Rudy preview art. Stunning. I was excited before but I may need to pick this up from my LCS next week instead of waiting for my DCBS shipment.

No, I hadn't seen the preview yet! Do you have a link? I'm really excited for this book.

Seen it, really liked it, heading to LCS right after work today to grab it. Hope this latest Winter Soldier solo title will last longer then the prior 19-issue run, but I'll take every new Bucky book I can get!

So did y'all get a chance to read it yet? I really liked it. As I said on Twitter just a minute ago, it's REALLY different, but in a very cool way. The art is spectacular. It's definitely a book I'll have to devote a little more attention to when reading just to get everything in it, though.

I did...it's very different. Very Ales Kot, and Rudy works well with him. Everyone pick it up and give it a shot.

Same here, got the last copy on shelf in the store last night (hope that's a good sign for the future). Gave it a quick read, but I have to give it a full (careful) read again to get all that was going on in the story & art, wow a lot of stuff catches my eye in this book. The art was a real trip. Love the premise for the book & think Bucky is perfect to take up the new watch from Fury. Can't want for issue-2.

The art for this is incredible. My only problem is I found it really hard to follow the actual story in correspondence with the art. The ending seemed like it was some big reveal but I sat there for 15 minutes flipping back and forth wondering what happened exactly.
The tone feels super crazy sci-fi which I love generally, but I can't seem to let go of my attachment to the gritty espionage Winter Soldier that I fell in love with. The sci-fi elements plus the humour in this feel like a completely different character altogether. That being said, characters need to grow and Bucky has had it pretty tough so its good to see him laughing.
Re-reading what I just wrote, I don't know if I liked this book or hated it. May need to stick with it for a bit.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the greatest nickname in comic book history that was mentioned in this book...."Imperious- Sex" ftw.

Just re-read the book & it’s definitely better on a second more attentive read. It has a Jim Steranko, 1960’s Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., feel & vibe to the art.

I found this issue made no sense to me. The art was spectacular aesthetically but seemed a little too dark so made the story even less comprehensible. I read it twice through and still wasn't sure what was really going on in the details of the story. Perhaps I am not familiar enough with the MarvelU, esp the cosmic side? I really like Kot, Rudy & the Winter Soldierso this should have been a slam dunk for me... maybe I need to read it again after a bit.

I've given it a couple more goes just because Bucky is one of my favourite charactors but it just makes no sense. I get the feeling Kot wanted got do a crazy sci fi book and Marvel said "well the best we can give you is Winter Solder". It feels like It's Winter Soldier only by name. Oh well. There'll always be Brubaker.

I think the artist is trying to mark some kind of mark in the comic book world and this story and format are not conducive. Bucky Barnes no matter his given mission as not the place for this ethereal psychotropic kind of art. It won't match the majority of comic book readers' aesthetic and will therefore not be received very favorably.

JH Williams did similar stuff with Batwoman, and I didnt like it then. I don't really enjoy reading this. It's certainly worth a read, though.

Alright, even my unabashed enthusiasm for the Winter Solider is starting to falter. Picked up issue 4 & I think their wasting an opportunity to explore some really interesting Sci-Fi story lines & character development for Bucky with the “Man on the Wall” idea. Love Image’s Black Science, thought maybe Marvel was going to try & get that retro Sci-Fi vibe going with this title. I’m afraid it’ll get the axe pretty quick & that’ll be it for a Winter Solider title for a long time to come.

I dropped this after issue one even though I love Bucky so, so much. And I know comparing one team to another could be applied to every book, but Brubaker made this character who he is now and this book has just thrown that out the window. Even Jason Latour, while adding some crazier plot elements, wrote Bucky the person the same way.
Anyway, out of curiosity I picked up issue 4 and had a flick through just now. My first gut reaction was "Of course, only 4 issues in Marvel couldn't even keep the art consistent". But what the crap? I think I can mark this as the first comic to ever really bug me. I'm all for homages, but 99% of the book may as well be ripped from the Incal. And the Incal is amazing, but this is just unoriginal. Even Deepo the bird was in it.
What makes me laugh is Bendis wrote the introduction for the latest reprint of the Incal: "Listen to me right now! If you are a storyteller from any visual medium on the planet Earth and if you are even thinking about nicking something out of this Incal graphic novel collection stop!! Stop it! Stop the madness!! Even if you think you are creating an homage… stop! It! Be the first writer or artist on the planet Earth to have read this material and not ripped it off."
I Guess Ales Kot didn't get the memo.
Also Bucky was barely in it at all. For a book with a title that is 2 of the names of the same character, you'd think he'd be in the book.
Black Widow is more of a Winter Soldier book than this is. I'll put this in the same boat as New 52 Catwoman and just hope the creative team changes soon.
Anyway. Got that out of my system. Just seems strange that with a movie JUST out that follows the original book and character so closely, Marvel would try and at least keep the character the same way.
