I was wondering, when has the Joker been genuinely funny? I know humour is subjective and each to their own, but I can only think of very few moments when the Joker has made a joke that is actually funny. Also don't get me wrong, he is one of my favourite villains. But this is what I could come up with:
1. The Dark Knight - This is the first time the Joker made me laugh. Whether it be the "magic trick", his mannerisms in general, the nurse outfit scene. All funny. In fact, as much as I love Nolan and his films, some of the few funny moments in those movies all together.
2. Adventures of Superman #14 - the recent issue with him and Superman. Great Superman and Joker moments but the Joker moments especially were clever and funny.
3.....
Thats what I mean. I think of Mad Love, but Harley is the funny one in that. Batman too (Batman saying Puddin' still gets me). Killing Joke, well that joke might have been funny in the day, but he's more threatening and frightening than funny. Same with the Snyders Death of the Family. He's scary, but not exactly funny. The Animated series is one where I feel like he is always laughing and cackling and saying crazy things and making gags that are old-timey "boxing glove in the face" funny, but maybe more-so for kids.
I don't know. Seems strange that a character named the Joker rarely makes jokes.
But somebody please correct me because I want to read these stories or see these moments that are out there.

When I think of The Joker being genuinely funny, I immediately go to Batman: The Animated Series. The combination of the writing and Hamill's delivery is fantastic, and makes me laugh consistently.

The Joker's laughing gas solves the problem of the Joker not always being funny. This is the funniest thing I have ever read of the Joker : www.dialbforblog.com/archives/136/

I think you are smart to notice he's not actually funny. His sense of humor is deranged in a way that a sociopath would understand. It's sort of the point of him.

He's about as funny as a bullet to the head.

I've never seen Joker as a character that is meant to make you laugh. To be he's always been a villain who finds humour in the most deranged and horrible things. I don't think he's ever been meant as a humorous character, the Joker name refers to him seeing awful things as funny.

Really? I'm the only one who thinks he's hilarious in the Animated Series and the subsequent tie-in movies? Or the periodic table of elements joke at the end of Death of The Family?

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, he's tonnes of fun in TAS and written the right way he does have his moments in comics. But I've always felt that Joker only laughs for himself and at the things he does.
