I finally got around to watching the second "New 52 Universe" DC animated straight-to-video movie Son of Batman. Anyone seen it? What do you think?
Minor spoilers possibly ahead.
I actually kind of liked it despite its problems. It certainly wasn't Grant Morrison, and I thought it was really weird that the villains were Deathstroke and Man-Bat(s). It also had some of the worst voice acting ever in a DC animated movie. Whoever thought Thomas Gibson would make a good Deathstroke? I longed for Manu Bennett. The animation was pretty ho-hum, although the fight scenes were good.
But Damien's characterization and his relationship with Batman was pretty good (though a bit forced at times). The highlight of the movie for me though was Nightwing, in his very few scenes. I don't usually get into the character much these days, but his interactions with Damien were hilarious.
I'll be interested to see where they go from here, if anywhere. I understand the current movie, Assault on Arkham (which I haven't seen yet, but it looks amusing), is not a "New 52" movie. But I hear the next one is Throne of Atlantis, which could be decent.

I liked it quite a bit. You're not wrong that it had a few issues, but on the whole I really, really enjoyed it, from the animation, to the general characterization, to a number of action sequences that I thought were delightful. Definitely a successful entry into their animated universe.
To the contrary, I tried to watch Assault on Arkham last week, but struggled mightily to get through it. Maybe I just don't like the Suicide Squad as much as I thought I might, but honestly, it's not one of their stronger efforts.

At least now I know I don't have to make a priority watch...
