So after the footage from SDCC of Bats v Supes, I got really excited and re-read Dark Knight Returns (while listening to the Christopher Drake score from the animated movies, I recommend it) and forgot how much I love it. Then I realized I'd never read the much debated Strikes Again. So I picked it up. And laugh if you will..... I absolutely loved it.
The Art is not great. It has its moments. Not as good as Returns, but it has some Sin City quality pages. Then some primary school Microsoft Paint pages.
But it is over the top ridiculous and fun. And I think at the time of release it was obviously hated because nothing could ever compare to the classic Returns but 13 years later I feel like it finally makes sense, and from an analytical perspective really pokes a big Frank Miller stick at everything awful about the early 2000's.
Please tell me I'm not taking crazy pills here?
On a side note, there is a tiny panel in the book that I feel like Zack Snyder looked at before he made MoS and said "How can I embody this panel into an entire film?" Don't get me wrong, I'm a giant defender of that movie, but I couldn't help but laugh. Can't find a link to one, but its during Superman's fight with the giant robot, a woman looks to the sky and says "Look! Up In The Sky! It's -- OH, SH*T --"
Anyway, anybody else enjoy this book as much as me? Maybe even not so much as a Batman or Justice League, but as a whacked out Frank Miller Elseworld's fever dream?

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this book. To me it kinda feels like somebody doing a parody of Frank Miller rather than his own work. I agree with the art not being great, but I'm not sure I remember the Sin City quality pages, I remember it just not being good all the way through. I like the Frank Miller Elseworld's Fever Dream comment but I think the Goddamn Batman miniseries (Or All Star Batman and Robin as some people call it) is a much better fever dream.
