The next topic tackled by The Missfits is the works of filmmaker extraordinaire Guillermo del Toro. Mara, Melissa and Stephanie discuss Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Devil’s Backbone, The Strain, Pacific Rim and more del Toro goodness and answer your questions. Recommendations for this episode: Runaways by Brian K. Vaughn, The Professional by Kresley Cole, Zombie Tsunami, Mind: Path to Thalamus, Downton Abbey and The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. Our next show is going to be a listener questions show (yay!) so if you have any questions for us (ANY AT ALL!) make sure you get them in to us. You can send them in via email, Twitter or the forum thread here. And what do you guys all think of our new Missfits Banner design? It’s done by the wonderful Hanie Mohd and we LOVE it. If you like her work, make sure you’re checking out her stuff online and letting her know how rad she is. Ladies,
Another fabulous show, as the discussion of Guillermo del "Totoro's" work was fascinating, and filled with new info, even to me as a big fan; heck, I'm still angry that his film adaptation of HPL's masterpiece "At the Mountains of Madness" was put aside!
Even better though was the first half, as it truly feels as if I'm eavesdropping on an amazing pub conversation!
Congratulations!

Excited to listen during my walk tonight, even though I am possibly the only person into geeky stuff I know who didn't like Pacific Rim (I know, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, don't hurt me!). I do love Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth, though, and am all kinds of excited for Crimson Peak.

Crimson Peak sounds amazing though! I can't wait for that either. And Bob, you are our most devoted fan and I think we absolutely must have you on as a guest sometime in the near future.

Stephanie (...and you too, Mara and Melissa!),
I'm a fan because you're doing wonderful work, it's as simple as that!
Your individual and combined passions for so many unique things is infectious; for example, I had only a passing interest ("I really should watch some of those...") in the Studio Ghibli films, and after your show, I went to my Library and borrowed "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "My Neighbor Totoro" (which I then bought almost immediately!) and have now watched and enjoyed most of their catalog!
Speaking of watching movies, which Guillermo del Toro film should I watch tonight? I'm leaning toward "Pacific Rim", but it's a close race with "Hellboy"...and I'll definitely be viewing the "Lovecraft" documentary where he gets a lot of screen time, expressing his admiration for HPL.
ps) I'm honored that you'd think about having me pay a visit to, forgive the Birds of Prey reference, the Gotham Clock-tower! rrr

Bob, we all love your super generous commentary to our episodes! We may just start a new segment for the show, "What Bob Said". No joke.
Between Pacific Rim and Hellboy, I'd choose PR. I went back and watched Hellboy 1 & 2 during my homework for this show and realized that I don't like them this time as much as I did the first time around. Not sure why, except maybe at the time they were made I had more excitement about a Hellboy film being made at all.

Melissa, That's a lovely thing to say, and I'm genuinely touched, so thanks for giving some up-lift to this cranky old heart! Having just watched "Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown" (which you should definitely see; the DVDs OOP, but the film's up on You Tube, somehow!), I'm going with your recommendation and will put on "Pacific Rim"...at least, right after I make an egg cream, of course made with Fox's U-Bet Chocolate Syrup!

Another great episode, i think the show is getting better with each new episode.
Other than Pacific Rim and the first Hellboy i haven't seen any of his work, i think its because i'm not much of a horror guy. That's why i don't think that Strain show would be something for me, the idea of worms crawling into people or something like that freaks me out.
Oh, and i loved the idea of a BPRD tv show, that needs to happen NOW!
Keep up the good work!

Listened today on a drive from Hew Hampshire to Maine. The features are always great, but I really love the chatter during the first half the show. The random (seeming) recommendations and the "sidebars" (in my house we call them "birdwalks"). A good time, thank you.

I'm very impressed with the comprehensive recapping at the end of the recommendations. There hasn't been an episode yet that I haven't come away with something new so thanks, guys.
Somebody please pitch that BPRD show. As a die-hard Mignolaverse dude that would just be on repeat 24/7.

I enjoyed the show! My favorite part was when Melissa brought up interview with del Toro where he talks about the political aspects of horror and fairy tales. I would love a deeper analysis of some of del Toro's films and where they fall on the political/psychology spectrum. Thanks for the show!

Hate to burst your bubble, but that bulge in Idris' pants is not what you think.
