Great discussion of Guardians! Just a quick note on the books of the week segment - Bodies was one of the only comics I picked up last week. I was out of town on business, but I did visit a comic shop while in D.C. (Fantom Comics in Dupont Circle, which I can definitely recommend to anyone in D.C., because the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful) and grabbed a few books I knew I hadn't put on my pull list at home, including Bodies. The cover was what drew me in, and the artwork is fantastic. I do agree that it may ultimately read better in a trade, but if you haven't picked up #1 and like mysteries and unconventional storytelling, you should give #1 a try to see if it's for you.
So I guess the fact that I'm joining the site has been spoiled now! I'm very excited to be a part of the crew, and thanks once again for the opportunity. Regarding my email, I agree with Steve about my qualms with "that" line (to be non-spoilery) - it's definitely not something that ruined the movie for me, and overall my impressions of the movie were overwhelmingly positive. It was just that little record-scratch that threw me for a moment, and a rare bum note in what was a pretty sparkling script. I liked hearing the discussion about it, though.

I totally agree about that line, using the word whore was a bad idea. The joke in essence worked, but the use of that word beforehand diffused it before the punch line. If they had used a silly word such as wench or if he just called her 'the green woman' then the scene wouldn't have jarred like it did and the joke would have come off to the full. Congratulations on being picked to write for the site!!!

I think the Doom Patrol thats been introduced is more on the Grant Morrison side of things than original. The Chief in that was also a bit of a nasty sort. I think that Doom Patrol, although crazy, is the most accessible now anyway and really holds up. the Morrison Doom Patrol is my Doom Patrol, which i guess works for every generation of characters. Eventually they change. The original stuff you can only really find in the big black and white Essential editions, or paying ridiculous prices for the Archive editions.
The ONLY way I can see a "sympathetic" Venom or Carnage movie working is if they follow the Ultimate books. BUT that was completely central to Peter's story and his dad's history with genetics. Without Peter it doesn't work. Even if they tried the 616 story, Venom starts because the symbiote attaches itself to Peter.
I really enjoyed ASM2, I see what people didn't like, but it's easy for me to ignore those problems and enjoy what was good about it (Gwen and that ending still gives me goosebumps). But it seems Sony is now scrambling around after the reaction to it as if to say "Oh no, they didn't like the new Spider-Man!? People don't like SPider-Man!? What else do we have the rights for!?"
How about just make a 3rd one, and make it right? Like its not even about how can they make a solo movie for a Spider-Man villain. How do you make a solo movie for a villain in general? How the hell would a Joker solo movie work without Batman? It wouldn't.
Then you get Marvel Studios announcing Guardians to which general public and comic readers alike go "HUH!?" but they stick to it. And look how that turned out. I just spend close to $400 on Guardians Hot Toys Groot and Rocket. I only own 1 Guardians paperback. And if I were to choose sides in the ridiculous war that is Marvel vs DC, I would be DC in a heartbeat. THAT'S how well Marvel Studios are doing.
MAN I want to kiss Kevin Feige's brain.

Let's see....I also have no idea what is Fox doing with that Venom/Carnage movie and the whole female starring movie as the Spider-Man universe doesn't quite have a character that can carry their own movie (without being introduced and be a huge supporting role in another movie).
I'm loving the Justice League issues with the Doom Patrol, I also picked up Low and I might have to wait to see how it picks up in later issues.
Also, I LOVED GOTG! just like with Stephanie, is my favorite Marvel movie (behind Winter Soldier and Avengers). I think my top 3 characters are Rocket, Groot and Drax (more surprised about Drax,)although everyone else was good. The music was great and loved how it was incorporated in the music, it helped to create the unique mood in the movie. Also Lee Pace is in the Hobbit as Thranduril, which is soooooo different from Ronan or the Piemaker, ohh and I had a huge grin on my face when Thanos showed up and that smirk he does at the end!
And finally, Loki's staff do not contains an Infinity Stone....in Avengers it is said that it's powered by the Tesseract. And also if you notice is the same color as the Cube, and the fact that we got the different colors confirmed during The Collector's explanation about the stone should let us know that Loki's staff is not it.

Stephanie comparing Thanos, on his chair watching the universe go by, to some random guy on his front porch watching the traffic go by, has to be one of the funniest, yet true comparisons I have ever heard. That's not going away.
The 'whore' moment really didn't throw me as Drax the Destroyer is like that in the book. He loses some of his graces in jail. Gamora stops him immediately. The joke isn't there, it's when he takes out Nebula. (Nebula doesn't die, she just gets really big boo boos)
I, for one, am glad that the villains did not have more screen time. Its getting old. I don't care where they come from, I don't need to see mass destruction etc. We got the gist of their power sets, and the focus was more on the guardians themselves. I felt cheering for the good guys instead of seeing more villains and cheering them on. More heroes, less villains. This is the most 'comic book' movie in storytelling than I have ever seen.
Don't get me wrong, the villains were amazing. The actors and writing was spot on!
My only disappointment was Marvel/Disney not passing out Rocket Raccoon #1's to everyone leaving the theater. Get the book in people's hands. You like Groot/Rocket, here is an entire book of that friendship.
P.S. If you google images of Loki's staff, you will see the mind stone, and an infinity gauntlet that shows you where it belongs among the set.

I also enjoyed Bodies #1 quite a bit. Like you, I strongly suspect that it will read better in one go. Can't say for sure until I've read it all, but I suspect it will be one of those series I wind up feeling should have been published in TPB sized paperbacks from the start, omitting the monthly issues entirely. I'll certainly keep reading, though.
