It's funny, I'm noticing a lot of movie soundtracks and classical coming up in this conversation. My musical taste varies, similar to most here. I grew up on punk from my older siblings, found metal, then the White Stripes and the Shins changed everything for me and its just progress from there. Never thought some of my favourite albums and bands would be hip hop and electronic. But over the past year or so I just havent heard anything new I loved and wasn't necessarily getting bored of the music I already had, but just needed a change. Then David Aja's playlists on the early Hawkeye issues showsed me some incredible classical. And then I started getting alot more film scores. I had a couple I liked but never really actually listened to them. And for the last year all I've been able to listen to, especially while reading, is classical and film scores. I'm also a musician and write songs, but find it way to difficult to start a band as everyone I meet has very basic tastes. Like I will write songs for every genre I love, but I'll meet a dummer that can only play for one. So I started self producing stuff electronically, some amazing programs out there where you can literally have an entire orchesta play a simply set of chords you wrote down. And free too which is awesome. I feel stupid doing this, but i have no idea how to get my stuff out there, the internet seems to be TOO big now, I'll post my stuff somewhere and it'll get 1 listen. My music is all instrumental and heavily influenced by a combination of film scores, The Prodigy, as well as some Neil Young and Stooges and then your basic punk and metal riffs and beats. And of course heavily comic book/film influenced, using some audio samples from a few movies. If it's to your likeing or you know anybody pass it on. Some tracks are available for download on Soundcloud and a digital EP for sale on bandcamp. tooth0.bandcamp.com/soundcloud.com/t-o-o-t-hLike it pal, I like instrumental stuff as being a singer in a jam band there are a lot of times I'm just listening to the band have some fun for a few minutes and you can really get swept up in in it. Who needs singers!!!

Here's me and my band doing a 6 piece acoustic rendition of Led Zeppelins Kashmir if anyone's interested. Took months to learn full electric version so was nice to then strip it back. youtu.be/6eCBIlapUssNICE! I love Kashmir and you guys did Zeppelin proud. Cheers buddy, if you don't do zeppelin justice then don't do zeppelin! You get stringed up for ruining one of their tunes!! This was the culmination of months work so you get what you put in :-)

I'm into a lot of Post-Hardcore, punk, and some Emo as well. Bands like Circa Survive, Touche Amore, Thursday, Alexisonfire, Mineral, and many more. Gonna go see Touche Amore's tour this summer with a friend so I'm pretty stoked for that since I missed them the last time around.
Anyways, here's a song I like from a band I recently discovered:

I listen to a lot of diffrent music. Music for me is like colour, it is beautiful to behold. This morning Pink Floyd's Echoes came on my ipod while I was doing my Sunday morning comic reading. I only read comics on Sunday morning, as my kids are sleeping and the house is quiet. That song coupled with issue four in the Uncanny X-force Omnibus, when Fantom X does what he does at the end of the issue and the following page of X-Force going home in silence, Wheww! When I study, I listen to movie soundtracks. Not the ones that have rock or pop songs on them, moive soundtracks from movies like Thor, or Star Wars, or Lord of the Rings. I bunch them all up into a soundtrack play list and shuffle em. Makes for good study music as it is non commital. I also find that the older I get the more I like Canadian rock/pop rock. Sloan, Fur trade, Hot Hot Heat, Sam Roberts (The new album is killer), Crash Karma, ect. I don't know if it is because I miss Canada or that Canadian music just speaks to me.

Having my periodic obsessive listen to Marina and the Diamonds' Electra Heart album. Her song "Electra Heart," which is sort of confusingly not on the album but has a video combining clips from all of the videos she did for the songs on Electra Heart (which in turn all represent different female archetypes - it's an amazing pop project), gave me lots of The Wicked + the Divine imagery feelings for those of you reading that book. Apparently Kieron Gillen agrees because he favorited my tweet to him about it. Here's the song. Supposedly Marina is working on some new material now, hooray!

I like generally stuff like hard rock, punk, noise rock, some metal, progressive rock, and psychedelic rock. Although, I do like some rap and hip hop, mainly old-school stuff from the late 80s/early 90s. Here's a quick run-down of the stuff on my mp3 player that I'm frequently listening to:
Swans Big Black Dead Kennedys Jello Biafra (with DOA) Tool System of a Down Metallica The Black Angels A Tribe Called Quest Hawkwind Country Teasers Ween Wax Idols Thought Forms Flipper De La Soul The Pharcyde Del the Funky Homosapien Gorillaz Alestorm Black Sabbath Bloodhound Gang Destruction Unit Fear Helmet The Jesus Lizard King Crimson Korn Melvins Pissed Jeans Primus
Some other stuff that I like a lot but don't currently own is Black Flag, Iron Maiden, and Les Claypool's other stuff. I also omitted some stuff from that list like some early Linkin Park and Slipknot, and Scars on Broadway.

Love the diversity of the Talking community, some great throwbacks in here and some others I am looking forward to checking out. I am a big music lover...always have been. I was raised on a steady diet of Elvis ( C and P), David Bowie, Pat Benetar, ELO, Queen, Brice Springsteen , and a wide sample of Irish rebel songs. I have tried and failed to learn sax, trumpet, mandolin, and violin through the years, I accept that I have no talent for performance but I was a pretty good dj in my misbegotten youth. I listen to a lot of different artists but the ones I always come back to are:
Elliot Smith, Devo, Air, Neko Case, Jeff Buckley, Calexico, the Smiths, Lyle Lovett, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Portishead, Pulp, Spoon, De La Soul, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Steve Earle, Lana del Rey, Bettie Serveert, Richard Buckner, the Old 97s, Django Reinhardt & the Hot Club of France, Afghan Wigs, Drive By Truckers, XTC...i could go on all night.
I am on my phone so I cannot post a link but if you like old punk check out "Urgh! A Music War" on youtube. Some great performances by some early punk and new wave visionaries. Wall of Voodoo, The Cramps, Gary Numan, the go-gos, etc.
